Padres Could Have a Tough Time Upgrading at Catcher
Elias Diaz and Martin Maldonado, but The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal writes that most teams with depth at catcher are reluctant to compromise it. The Athletics' Shea Langeliers is eligible for arbitration for the first time this offseason, but his agent is Scott Boras, and the A's are not trading Langeliers, according to a source briefed on their plans. The Atlanta Braves are also unlikely to part with Sean Murphy despite the emergence of rookie Drake Baldwin. Once the Baltimore Orioles get healthier behind the plate -- they just put three catchers on the injured list in 10 days -- they could make Gary Sanchez available for a potential reunion in San Diego. Sanchez, a two-time All-Star, hit 19 home runs in just 72 games for the Friars back in 2023. Diaz and Maldonado have combined for eight round-trippers in 2025.
