Aaron Nola more than 6.5 strikeouts
Nola has had a rough start to 2023, but he has a great chance to rebound against the Marlins tonight. To begin the season, Miami is striking out at a clip of 27.3% vs. right-handed pitching, which is ranked worst in the league. They are also posting just a 77 wRC+ vs. righties. Nola is an ace and showed this by posting a superb 10.32 K/9 in 2022 with just a 3.25 ERA.
Gerrit Cole more than 6.5 strikeouts
I think I am going to take the bait on this one. While the Guardians are posting the seventh-best K rate vs. right-handers to begin the season, this number is just too low for Cole. He has started the season by posting a .73 ERA with 19 strikeouts across his first 12 2/3 innings pitched. He is simply too good to be sitting at a prop of 6.5 and will likely climb a tad throughout the day.
Alek Manoah less than 6.5 strikeouts
Although Manoah faces Detroit tonight, this number still seems a bit high. In 2022, Manoah managed to strike out seven or more in a total of 11 starts. Detroit also is not as prone to the strikeout as some may initially think. On the season, they are posting a K rate of 23.5% vs. right-handed pitchers, which is ranked in the middle (16th) of the pack. He may struggle to get there today.
Jesus Luzardo more than 6.5 strikeouts
Luzardo has shown some legit stuff over the previous two seasons as he is fresh off of a 10-strikeout performance against the Twins and also posted a 10.76 K/9 in 2022. He will be up against the Phillies, who have struggled against left-handed pitching to begin the season.
They have posted the 11th-worst K rate at 24.4% while also walking at a clip of just 6.1%, which is ranked in the bottom half of the league. He should be able to last long enough to get there today against a team we have had some success attacking with lefties thus far in 2023.
