Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (7/15) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Tuesday, July 16th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 16th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Daily Musings

  • German Marquez, Bless your heart! When you want the suffering to stop, just whisper BOYSENBERRY! and the pain will all be over. 2.1IP, 11ER, 3K later.
  • Tyler Glasnow…delayed delay in return. Possibly no return. Dropsy in re-draft unless you have extended IL spots.
  • Ryan McMahon (eighth HR) making everyone forget about Garrett Hampson & Brendan Rodgers
  • Raimel Tapia needs more playing time. (seventh HR)
  • Andrew Benintendi feeling some rays of sunshine w/2-for-5 day w/3RBI
  • Brandon Workman w/fourth SV. So many Merry Go Round songs to choose. Let's just say Keith Sweat.
  • Despite lull in performance, Michael Chavis has 4HR, 15RBI, .259AVG in last 15 days.
  • Jose Ramirez has four multi-hit games in July. Only six in June. Progress. .225AVG. Still selling?
  • Clayton Kershaw excellent vs PHI w/6IP, 1ER, 7K. MIA next, easy sailing.
  • Luis Castillo resumes tremendous season w/6IP, 3ER, 10K. 9-3, 2.41ERA, 29.3%K rate.
  • Yasiel Puig w/22nd HR. One shy of 2018 season. Cinci has been good to him.
  • Kyle Schwarber is tough to own. 20HR, .232AVG. Need some offsetting.
  • Max Fried is second Braves pitcher to 10 wins. 4.08ERA(3.86FIP). 54%Ground-ball rate. 3.29K/BB
  • BIG WHIFFER!! Me, w/no shares of Luke Jackson(17SV) or Ian Kennedy(14SV)
  • Miles Mikolas w/complete-game shutout. CIN might offer a different result.
  • James McCann’s amazing season cannot be stopped. 10HR, 4SB, .310AVG. He cost nothing.
  • WILD THANG! Griffin Canning was indeed wild. 1.1IP, 3ER, 2K & SIX WALKS! I feel more confident about Mariners start next.
  • Three-Fer.
    • Travis d’Arnaud (nine HR) w/three taters including the game-winning shot. A single moment when Mets fans are jealous with thoughts of d'Anaud
  • Two-Fer
    • Cody Bellinger takes MLB HR lead(33)
    • Edwin Encarnacion(27). Mentioned it a couple of days ago. .221AVG might give a buying opportunity. Also, check your leagues. 86% owned.
    • Oscar Mercado has two HR & a combo meal. Six HR to go w/seven SB, .284AVG
    • Jordy Mercer has himself a day of days(3HR). Not fantasy-relevant, but respect nonetheless.
    • George Springer. 20HR despite month-long absence. (watched both live)
    • Tyler O'Neill(four) only 5% owned. That will build some excitement. Boost confidence leading to good performance.
    • Brandon Crawford(9). 5-for-6 w/8RBI. WOW! You get a non-homer THUNDER!
  • OF Waiver Wire article recs had a good start to the week:
    • Alex Verdugo (11th HR); Oscar Mercado(fifth & sixth taters)
  • Have a great Tuesday. Sorry for the quickness. It's vacation time.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
