ANALYSIS: The Seattle backfield has typically been led by Kenneth Walker III over the past few seasons. As a result, Zach Charbonnet has typically been held in a reserve role and been primarily viewed as a handcuff.
However, in their season opener, Charbonnet was surprisingly given the lead job, which has raised his fantasy stock substantially. In this contest, Charbonnet ran the ball all 12 times and logged 58% of the team's total snaps, while Walker logged only 40% and took just 10 carries. More importantly, Charbonnet punched in a goal-line score and added 47 yards on the ground.
Even though Charbonnet appeared to be the lead option in the backfield, fantasy managers should slightly pump the brakes. During training camp, Walker was dealing with a foot injury, which could have played a role in his somewhat limited role in this game.
While Charbonnet could eventually carve out the lead job, managers should expect them to remain in timeshare, with the slight majority likely going to the proven workhorse, Walker.
As a result, Charbonnet carries solid flex appeal heading into a Week 2 matchup against the Steelers. If he were to lead the backfield again this weekend, he would enter must-start RB2 stats.
