Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Treveyon Henderson, RB, New England Patriots
According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, the Patriots could look to modify their backfield roles in Week 2 when they face the Miami Dolphins. Reiss noted that the team's snap distribution could change following their loss in Week 1. In this contest, veteran Rhamondre Stevenson dominated the workload while second-round rookie TreVeyon Henderson was deployed as the clear No. 2.
However, given that their rushing attack was unsuccessful in this contest, the coaching staff appears to be already looking for ways to improve. Head coach Mike Vrabel noted that, "We have to evaluate everything to make sure we're getting it right based on volume, who's playing, who's getting the ball." While Stevenson will likely remain the leader of the backfield, fantasy managers should expect Henderson to see more than just the five attempts he saw in the opener.
As a result, Treveyon Henderson carries flex appeal with upside heading into Week 2, while Stevenson is best left as a volume play in deeper formats.
Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter's two-way role is set to grow in Week 2 as the Jaguars prepare for the Bengals. After logging 44 of 63 offensive snaps and just six on defense in his NFL debut, the staff plans to ease him into packages on the back end while still managing his workload.
Hunter already looked comfortable on offense, leading Jacksonville in targets (8) and receptions (6) for 33 yards, and his ability to threaten defenses after the catch should continue to earn designed touches. The added defensive snaps give Jacksonville a flexible chess piece for passing downs and late-game situations.
With Cincinnati's defense still unproven, expect Travis Hunter's snap share and impact to climb as the Jacksonville Jaguars find more ways to keep their two-way difference-maker on the field.
Dylan Sampson, RB, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns running back Dylan Sampson will head on the road to take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2. Sampson turned in an excellent pro debut in a one-point loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, catching all eight of his targets for 64 yards.
He also dominated the backfield work, earning 12 carries to starter Jerome Ford's six in the contest. Sampson appears to be locked into the pass-catching role in the Cleveland offense, a spot that should be productive against a Ravens defense that allowed James Cook to catch all five of his targets for 58 yards in Week 1.
Dylan Sampson sets up as a high-end RB3/flex option with upside versus a questionable Baltimore Ravens defense, heading into fantasy contests in Week 2.
Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan led the Panthers with 68 receiving yards and five receptions on nine targets in their Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Considering the poor play of quarterback Bryce Young and the Panthers' offense as a whole, McMillan's fantasy output in PPR leagues wasn't terrible (11.8 PPR points).
If you roster McMillan in fantasy, you likely need him to produce WR2 numbers, which he didn't quite do in Week 1. Heading into Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, McMillan will once again have opportunities, as he was on the field for 83% of the Panthers' offensive plays in Week 1, leading all Panthers wideouts.
The question is whether the Panthers' offensive line can give Young enough time to get the ball downfield for big plays to the big-bodied McMillan. If Young can improve in Week 2, it is expected that McMillan will outscore his Week 1 total. McMillan is a solid WR3/Flex option with WR2 upside heading into Week 2 against Arizona.
RJ Harvey, RB, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey carries flex value heading into a Week 2 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. While Harvey was competing for the starting job during training camp, the Broncos opted to lean on their veteran, J.K. Dobbins, in the season opener.
During their victory over the Tennessee Titans, Dobbins carried the ball all 16 times while Harvey took just six carries. Despite the smaller workload, Harvey was every efficient in his role, totaling an impressive 70 yards, which led the team. Through the air, Harvey caught his lone target for -1 yards.
While the No. 3 option, Tyler Badie, could also take opportunities away from Harvey, given his elite efficiency, the rookie should still provide low-end flex value in 12+ team leagues this weekend. However, Dobbins still figures to lead the team in carries.
