Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 15:
Mike Gesicki, TE, Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki had his best game of the season in Week 14, hauling in all six targets for 86 yards and a touchdown in the 39-34 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Gesicki was having a career-worst season prior to his Week 14 explosion, averaging just 3.2 PPR points per game, ranking as the TE51, trailing the likes of Daniel Bellinger and Jackson Hawes.
His snap count remains low, playing just 39% of the snaps in Week 14, behind both Noah Fant (43%) and Drew Sample (46%). If he wants to become a starting option for fantasy managers, he needs to play more snaps; otherwise, he'll be incredibly volatile. His role will be one to watch this week, as the Bengals host the division rival Baltimore Ravens in a must-win game in Week 15.
Isaiah Likely, TE, Baltimore Ravens
Across 10 games so far this season, Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely has recorded 22 receptions for 248 yards and a touchdown on 31 targets. While his full-season numbers don't jump off the page, the 25-year-old appears to be trending upwards. Over his last two games, Likely has hauled in nine catches for 124 yards and a touchdown on 12 targets. If not for an ill-fated fumble at the goal line in Week 13 and a questionable call on a dropped touchdown in Week 14, Likely might have three scores over the last two weeks.
Given veteran tight end Mark Andrews' (glute) presence in Baltimore, Likely's playing time usually has a defined ceiling. However, Andrews popped up on Thursday's injury report as a limited practice participant due to a glute injury heading into Baltimore's Week 15 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. If Andrews is facing any sort of missed time, Likely would immediately emerge as a high-upside starting tight end option for fantasy managers.
Harold Fannin Jr., TE, Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. was dominant in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans, hauling in eight of his 11 targets for 114 yards and a touchdown. Fannin has now scored in back-to-back games and continues to look like a draft-day steal for the Browns. The rookie third-rounder leads Cleveland in all receiving categories this season, collecting 59 catches for 619 yards and four touchdowns on 85 targets, and ranks as the TE11 in PPR points per game (11.1).
Fannin has established a solid connection with fellow rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders in his three starts, with Fannin clearing 50 receiving yards for the first time since Week 8. The rookie tight end's fantasy value is on the rise, and he is firmly in the TE1 mix heading into Week 15 against the Chicago Bears.
Dalton Schultz, TE, Houston Texans
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz corralled 3-of-4 targets for 22 yards in his team's 20-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. The veteran -- along with the rest of Houston's pass-catchers sans Nico Collins -- couldn't find much room to operate against the hosting Chiefs in Week 14. In spite of the aerial attack's poor performance, Schultz remained involved, placing second on the team in catches and third in yards and targets.
Rookie Jayden Higgins' ascension caps the former's weekly upside, but there's still some PPR appeal here on a squad that ranks eleventh in overall pass rate (58.23%). Even with Sunday's lowly fantasy output, the 29-year-old had recorded at least five catches and six looks in eight of his last 11 appearances. He's a stable option ahead of Week 15's waivers.
Brenton Strange, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange could churn out just 27 yards on 3-of-6 receiving in Sunday's 36-19 home win over the Indianapolis Colts. Strange took a slight step back in the yardage department this past weekend, but was still decently involved in Jacksonville's game plan, tying two other pass-catchers for second on the team with his opportunity share. Fantasy managers may quibble with the Penn State product's meager output. However, he's been decently involved all year, quietly ranking third on the team in receiving yards (369) despite missing five complete games.
The Jaguars' pass attack features a few too many mouths to feed, but only WR Jakobi Meyers appears to be separating from the rest of the pack. Fantasy managers with tight end trouble can look to the 24-year-old as a strong option at the position, especially if teammate Parker Washington (hip) is inactive for a second straight game.
