When Is Jordan Lawlar Getting Called Up? Fantasy Baseball Prospect Outlook (Week 3 Update)

Jordan Lawlar - fantasy baseball rankings shortstops prospects draft sleepers MLB injury news

When is Jordan Lawlar getting called up for fantasy baseball? Read about Jordan Lawlar’s debut date and fantasy baseball prospect outlook for Week 3 of 2025.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are starting off strong this season. Their 9-7 record might have them in fourth place in the NL West, but their 82 runs scored lead the division and rank third in all of Major League Baseball.

The offensive explosion comes courtesy of Arizona’s players, who seem to have started the season on a coordinated hot streak. Corbin Carroll, Geraldo Perdomo, Josh Naylor, and strong-side designated hitter Pavin Smith are all hitting well above .300. Second baseman Ketel Marte was 9-for-26 with six walks and six runs in his first eight games before hitting the injured list with a hamstring injury.

With Marte sidelined, the Diamondbacks are experimenting with how to fill the hole left in the lineup. Infielder Tim Tawa was called up and is splitting time with Garrett Hampson for the time being. But with Marte expected to be out for at least two more weeks, could this be top prospect Jordan Lawlar’s chance to break through at the big league level?

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

Jordan Lawlar Prospect Update For Fantasy Baseball

Coming into spring training, some expected Lawlar to push to become Arizona’s starting shortstop. Those hopes were derailed in mid-February when the Diamondbacks signed shortstop Perdomo to a four-year extension. With Perdomo locked up in the near term, Lawlar’s future with the franchise was suddenly in question.

Lawlar ended up starting the year with the Triple-A Reno Aces. Through 15 games, the 22-year-old is hitting .295 with two home runs, 15 runs, 11 RBI, and four stolen bases. However, it was Lawlar's hot-hitting teammate, Tawa, who got the promotion when Marte went down.

Jordan Lawlar Outlook For Fantasy Baseball

Through the minor leagues, Lawlar has continuously demonstrated the combination of power and speed that helped make him the sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft. In 245 minor league games, Lawlar has a triple slash of .294/.393/.501 with 40 home runs and 86 steals.

The Diamondacks’ current replacement plan for Marte involving Tawa and utility man Garrett Hampson isn’t going well. In the eight games since Marte’s injury, Tawa and Hampson are a combined 4-for-28 with five runs and four RBI. If the pair continues flailing at the plate, Arizona’s hand may be forced into promoting Lawlar at last.

Should that happen, there will be a rush to scoop up MLB Pipeline’s No. 10 from the waiver wire. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues (and especially those with “NA” slots) can stash Lawlar in case he gets the call.
