The Cut List (Week 23): Time to Let Go?

Welcome to Week 23 of the Cut List. Corey Dickerson, Michael Conforto, Maikel Franco, and Max Kepler should be cut in all standard league formats as we head into playoff time.

You should be scouring the free agent list so you can put yourself in the best position to win each day. Believe me, the players listed below will only hurt your team in the long run.

Want some waiver wire advice to make up for those necessary cuts? Make sure you check out our waiver wire blog for the best pickup consultation around.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

The Cut List: Week 23

Corey Dickerson (OF/DH, PIT)

Cut in 10-team leagues

Why you should cut him: Hitting .211 over the last 30 days and hasn’t had an RBI since August 8 at Colorado. No homers since July 22, either. Go ahead and chalk it up as an extended cold streak while other owners in your league scoop up hot free agents like German Marquez and Tyler White. Dickerson isn’t a guy you want on your playoff roster. Prioritize riding hot streaks over waiting out cold streaks.

Better OF option: Tommy Pham, Adam Eaton, Billy McKinney

Michael Conforto (OF, NYM)

Cut in 12-team leagues

Why you should cut him: The man is batting .136 over the last two weeks and chips in, like, one RBI per week. I was one of the bozos who drafted him in the 14th round of my draft thinking I had the steal of the year. The fantasy community couldn’t have been more wrong about this kid, but who am I kidding? We’re all going to draft him late next year because this 2019 Conforto hype train isn’t stopping.

Better OF options: Marwin Gonzalez, Billy McKinney

Maikel Franco (3B, PHI)

Cut in 12-team leagues

Why you should cut him: Seven hits over the last two weeks, and outside of two two-run homers since August 22, he’s been completely atrocious at the plate lately. Why not drop Franco and take a shot on Josh Donaldson? There’s virtually no risk involved in that move and it could pay off in a few weeks.

Better 3B options: Eduardo Nunez, Josh Donaldson

Max Kepler (OF, MIN)

Cut in 14-team leagues

Why you should cut him: Batting .218 over the last thirty days is a bad look for the young German. I hate to close the book on young guys like Kepler, but I’m pretty sure this kid won’t amount to much with the Twins. Go ahead and save this for when he’s the 2019 Matt Chapman and nearly wins the AL MVP award. Here’s what sucks about him underperforming: his deal expires after this season and he (supposedly) had the talent to set himself up for a huge deal somewhere. He’ll get another shot because of his age, but he could’ve cashed in huge if he panned out like he was supposed to this year.

Better OF option: Billy McKinney

Update on Last Week’s Cuts

Marco Gonzales (SP, SEA)

  • Placed on the 10-day DL on August 27

Wil Myers (1B/OF, SD)

  • 6-for-25, 4 runs, 1 HR, 1 RBI

Brandon Belt (1B, SF)

  • 3-for-19, 2 runs, 0 HR, 2 RBI

Kyle Seager (3B, SEA)

  • 4-for-24, 2 runs, 0 HR, 2 RBI
