Streaming Wars: Waiver Wire Targets for September 20

Brad Johnson's fantasy baseball daily streaming picks for September 20. Pitcher and hitter streamers for MLB DFS games, and head-to-head (H2H) waiver wire targets.

Welcome to Streaming Wars, your one-stop shop for streaming the waiver wire. Use this column to improve upon your neediest categories.

Below are your pitcher and hitter streaming targets for Wednesday, September 20.

Let's get to it.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

Agenda

  1. Olson Smash
  2. Today's Weather and Updates
  3. Tomorrow's Picks

1. Olson Smash

While Rhys Hoskins has received all the plaudits for second half dominance, Athletics first baseman Matt Olson has done his best to keep pace. He's homered now in four consecutive games including a moon ball last night. Olson now has 22 home runs in 197 plate appearances. Hoskins is sitting on 18 homers in 162 plate appearances.

2. Today's Weather and Updates

All 15 games should be playable tonight, although there are some small weather risks - mainly in Cincinnati and Detroit. Tomorrow is looking even drier.

3. Tomorrow's Picks - Wednesday, September 20

Pitchers to Use

Tomorrow is a positively superb day for streaming a high volume of pitchers. If you're way behind pace on innings and need to add 30 in one day, go ahead and grab six of the below names. Tyler Chatwood is perhaps the most useful of the bunch. He's very good when pitching away from Coors Field. The soon-to-be free agent will be a popular deep sleeper next draft season. Overall, the sinker specialist has a 4.57 ERA with 7.35 K/9 and 4.83 BB/9. On the road, he has a 3.41 ERA and an extreme soft contact rate.

Other Targets: Daniel Mengden, Jose Urena, Steven Brault, Jake Junis, Brett Anderson, Blake Snell, Dinelson Lamet, Josh Tomlin, Andrew Cashner, Felix Hernandez

Pitchers to Exploit

Rookie Davis cuts an imposing figure on the mound. Alas, that's where the dominance ends. His stuff is extremely hittable, and he's homer prone too. Even Daniel Nava hit two home runs against him. Davis performed relatively well in the minors where his below average fastball didn't automatically ruin his chance. In the majors, expect at least a 6.00 ERA. He'll face the Cardinals.

Other Targets: Bartolo Colon, Anibal Sanchez, Matt Moore, Wade Miley, Jake Thompson, Rookie Davis, Lucas Sims, James Shields, Ricky Nolasco

Homers on the Wire

Jose Martinez has emerged as the latest breakout slugger. While he's been mashing all season long, playing time has been an issue on a crowded Cardinals roster. Since early September, Martinez has been ensconced as the regular cleanup hitter. Overall, he's showing 30 home run power combined with a penchant for hard contact, a high BABIP, and strong plate discipline. He looks the part of a stud.

Other Targets: Max Kepler, Joe Mauer, Matt Chapman, Matt Joyce, Marcus Semien, Chad Pinder, Jed Lowrie, Mark Canha, Justin Bour, Aaron Altherr, Freddy Galvis, Stephen Piscotty, Scott Schebler, Josh Reddick, Lonnie Chisenhall, Mitch Haniger, Shin-Soo Choo

Steals on the Wire

Once again, the stolen base threats are few and far between. Keon Broxton and Hernan Perez will have the platoon advantage against Brault - not that either of them have notable splits. If the game wasn't at PNC Park, I'd like them better as power threats. I don't think they're particularly likely to run.

Other Targets: Jose Reyes

Skill Positions

My favorite catchers for tomorrow are Tyler Flowers and Jorge Alfaro. Nobody with fantastic platoon splits is available. Flowers and Alfaro offer above average power for the position. There's a chance lefty masher Cameron Rupp will start instead of Alfaro.
