Streaming Wars: Waiver Wire Targets for September 13

Welcome to Streaming Wars, your one-stop shop for streaming the waiver wire. Use this column to improve upon your neediest categories.

Below are your pitcher and hitter streaming targets for Wednesday, September 13.

Let's get to it.

1. Wait for it...

He'll get there, I promise you.

2. Today's Weather and Updates

We're all good on the weather front today. Forecasts for tomorrow look positive too.

3. Tomorrow's Picks - Wednesday, September 13

Pitchers to Use

Lucas Giolito is showing some positive signs in his latest attempt at the majors. He's ratcheted down his fastball usage while posting a sub-3.00 BB/9. Although he's struggled with home runs, a visit to Kauffman Stadium should help to mitigate that specific issue. Otherwise, he's inducing strikeouts and limiting base runners. I'd like to see him throw even fewer fastballs.

Jaime Garcia is a decent bet for a quality start. The boring veteran is opposed by a lefty-prone Rays offense.

Other Targets: Doug Fister, Dinelson Lamet

Pitchers to Exploit

I recently watched Tyler Glasnow lose to the Durham Bulls in the International League playoffs. It should be noted that he only allowed one run - a solo homer. Glasnow's stuff, when he locates it, is incredible. He sits at 95-97 mph with his fastball and throws 91 mph changeup. His curve ball is also very effective. Unfortunately, the operative phrase is "when he locates it." Scouting that specific outing, he exhibited 35 grade control and 25 grade command on the 20-80 scale. His curve ball was often spiked in front of the plate, and his catcher frequently had to reach multiple feet for the fastballs. The stuff alone excels at Triple-A, but that's less likely to fly in the majors.

Other Targets: Buck Farmer, Eric Skoglund, Jharel Cotton, Luiz Gohara, Martin Perez, Matt Harvey, Matt Garza, Jack Flaherty, Matt Moore

Homers on the Wire

Mitch Haniger started the season hot. Then he was injured, then he was cold, then injured, then cold again. Finally, he's heating up in time for fall. Since a three-hit game on August 30, he's batting .489/.489/.889 with four home runs, four doubles, and a triple in 45 plate appearances. That's a hell of a streak. He'll face middling southpaw Martin Perez.

Other Targets: Tyler NaquinTim Anderson, Mitch Moreland, Jed Lowrie, Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, Matt Joyce, Jayson Werth, Nick Williams, Austin Hays, Adam Frazier, Scott Schebler, Max Kepler, Joe Mauer, Jose Pirela, Stephen Piscotty, Enrique Hernandez

Steals on the Wire

Another issue with Glasnow is that he's super slow to the plate. If Keon Broxton or Hernan Perez reach base, they're going to run wild. Both hitters are also capable of ambushing a center-cut fastball.

Other Targets: Michael Taylor

Skill Positions

It's an Austin Barnes kind of day opposite Moore. Too bad the game is at AT&T Park.
