ANALYSIS: Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston had one of the most productive showings in the opening week as he tallied 79 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions during their victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday evening. However, managers should not expect Johnston to produce as a high-end fantasy asset going forward.
In this contest, Johnston saw fewer targets than both Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen, suggesting that he is the clear WR3 on this team. While he still could enjoy productive showings, he may be difficult to trust given the crowded nature of the Chargers' receiving room.
Last season, Johnston flashed at times as well, tallying over 10.0 PPR points per game in eight contests. However, he also fell below the double-digit mark in his other seven regular-season games. In addition, he only tallied 20+ PPR points in three games.
While the Chargers may look to lean on their passing attack more often this season, Johnston will not carry the weekly consistency. As a result, he is best viewed as a solid WR3/flex option heading into a Week 2 clash against the Las Vegas Raiders.
