3 days agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel caught five passes for 73 yards in the Niners' 11-10 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 3. The 26-year-old also took five carries but only gained six yards. He tends to break off large runs every so often. (This season, 70% of his rushing yards have come on two breakaway runs in Week 1 and 2.) But you have to deal with some nothing plays, too, if you want to get those. That he could still produce a decent stat line in an ugly game in which he didn't do anything on the ground shows his versatility.--Mitchell Blatt - RotoBallerSource: PFF
5 days agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel faces the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football in Week 3. The Broncos have a tough defense, which ranks eighth in PFF grade and third in least yards allowed per game. They have excelled at limiting both receiving and rushing plays—both of Samuel's specialties. But they haven't played any team as dynamic as the 49ers yet. While Samuel could be downgraded for facing a tough defense, he should also be upgraded with Jimmy Garoppolo coming in at 49ers quarterback. In his career, Samuel has scored three more PPR points per game when Garoppolo is playing versus when he is not (benefiting from more receiving yards and TDs). Samuel is an explosive player who can produce in a variety of ways, and it is best to leave him in your lineup most weeks.--Mitchell Blatt - RotoBallerSource: Rotoviz
1 week agoTrey Lance fractured his ankle in his third start in the NFL against the Seattle Seahawks and will miss the remainder of the season after surgery Monday morning. This is a huge blow for Lance, his fantasy managers, and perhaps the ceiling of theread more...
1 week agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel caught five passes for 44 receiving yards and added 53 rushing yards on four carries in the Niners' 27-7 thrashing of the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. On San Francisco's second drive, the 26-year-old juked an edge rusher in the backfield then turned upfield for 51 yards to set up the home team for a field goal to extend their early lead. The Niners never looked back. It was just one play that produced more than half of his yardage, but Samuel is dynamic enough to pull off such plays on a regular basis. The dual threat finished with 97 yards from scrimmage. While he did not score a touchdown, Samuel's guaranteed role in the offense on a weekly basis gives him multiple ways to score fantasy points. He will bring his exciting mode of play to Denver next week on Sunday Night Football.--Mitchell Blatt - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
2 weeks agoSan Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel's role in his team's running game offers him some insurance value in his Week 2 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The Niners' passing game looked terrible Week 1, and Samuel only made two catches, but he still finished inside the top 30 WRs in standard scoring on the strength of his 52 rushing yards and rushing TD on eight carries. He should have at least as many carries and possibly more this week (and going forward), as RB Elijah Mitchell is missing the next few games with an MCL injury. In 2021, in games that Mitchell played, Samuel averaged 86.1 receiving yards and 21.7 rushing yards, and in games Mitchell missed, he averaged 77.3 receiving yards and 29.7 rushing yards. His receiving volume might suffer, but he can make up for it on the ground. Samuel is a low-end WR2 and a strong flex play.--Mitchell Blatt - RotoBallerSource: Team Rankings
2 weeks agoSan Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel carried the ball eight times for 52 yards and a touchdown in the Niners' 19-10 loss to the Chicago Bears. He added two catches for 14 yards on eight targets. The 26-year-old had to take on a greater role in the backfield after starting RB Elijah Mitchell left the game near halftime with a knee injury. While the inexperience of Trey Lance at quarterback might be hurting Samuel's potential as a receiver, Samuel's skill running the ball will give him opportunities as a wide back, especially while Mitchell misses time. The 49ers' next game against Seattle seems like another chance for Samuel to put up points on the ground and in the air.--Mitchell Blatt - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
3 weeks agoSan Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel begins the season with a favorable matchup against the Chicago Bears. The Niners are 7 point favorites, who are implied to score around 24 points, against a Bears team that is expected to be one of the worst in the league. The Bears allowed the seventh most fantasy points per game (standard scoring) to WRs last season. Samuel was one of the pass catchers to exploit them. He caught six passes against the Bears in Week 7 of 2021 for 171 yards. That was when Jimmy Garoppolo was throwing him the ball. Now with Lance behind center, the only concern is whether Lance can captain the offense and deliver passes on target. Still, given Samuel's elite athleticism and proven production, he should be started with confidence in this enticing opening weekend matchup.--Mitchell Blatt - RotoBallerSource: Pro Football Reference
3 weeks agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (knee) wasn't listed on the team's injury report on Wednesday. He was dealing with a bone bruise behind his knee and returned to practice on Monday with no limitations. The 26-year-old will be all systems go against the Chicago Bears in Week 1. He broke out last season under "the wide back" role with 77 catches, 1,405 yards, and six touchdowns while rushing for 365 yards on 59 attempts and eight scores across 16 games. Samuel is a borderline WR1 and should be started in all league formats for the season opener against Chicago.--Brad Camara - RotoBallerSource: Eric Branch
3 weeks agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (knee) missed practice last Thursday with a bone bruise behind his knee but did participate in conditioning. However, he's back on the practice field Monday, so his Week 1 status looks positive. The 49ers travel to Chicago to take on the Bears, whose defense lost a lot of key pieces. Deebo Samuel should be viewed as a fantasy starter regardless of matchup, so this one is pretty straightforward. If he's active -- start him.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Matt Barrows
1 month agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (knee) sat out of practice on Sunday. The stud wideout is reportedly dealing with a minor knee contusion. He only played 10 snaps during their preseason finale against the Houston Texans. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned with the regular season two weeks away. Samuel has plenty of time to rest and recover before the season begins. He should be considered a low WR1/high WR2 for fantasy purposes.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Matt Maiocco
1 month agoSan Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel could not haul in his only target in Thursday's 17-0 loss to the Houston Texas in the preseason finale. He started Thursday's contest but was only targeted once and ended the preseason with no catches. The 49ers rested Samuel and fellow starting WR Brandon Aiyuk in the first two weeks of the preseason. The rushing-receiving dual threat threatened to hold out earlier this off-season before he was given a new three-year, $71.5 million deal. While it was rumored that Samuel was displeased with his role as a wide-back, he said, "I don't mind doing whatever it takes for this team to win." He took no carries Thursday night, but the new contract includes $650,000 worth of incentives if he rushes for over 379 yards this season. Fantasy managers should target Samuel as a WR1 with his dual role in upcoming drafts. Rotoballer is on board with this assessment, ranking him eighth in the latest wide receiver rankings. --Mitchell Blatt - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
2 months agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel should return to his old role as a full-time wide receiver now that the team has plenty of impressive depth at the running back position. Albert Breer of MMQB observes that incumbent starter Elijah Mitchell remains a stud while "rookie Tyrion Davis-Price has impressed in pads [and] Trey Sermon has taken a step." With so much depth in the backfield, Samuel won't be needed to run the ball as much. He was the WR2 last season, racking up 77 receptions, 1,405 receiving yards, 59 carries, 365 rushing yards, and 14 total touchdowns through 16 games. He owns an ADP of 17 heading into 2022 fantasy drafts.--Andersen Pickard - RotoBallerSource: Albert Breer
2 months agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel said his "wide back" role as a running back in 2021 was not a factor in his offseason discontent with the team when he requested a trade. He also said he's will to do "whatever it takes" to win moving forward after recently signing a three-year, $71.55 million extension to remain in San Francisco. Samuel finished last year as the WR2 in fantasy with 77 receptions, 1,405 yards, a league-leading 18.2 yards per catch and six touchdowns, adding 59 carries for 365 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 16 regular season games. The Niners backfield was pretty beat up last year, so it's possible they won't need to use Samuel as much in a rushing role in 2022, but fantasy managers certainly weren't complaining. Either way, the 26-year-old will be a surefire top-10 fantasy pass-catcher this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: San Jose Mercury News - Cam Inman
2 months agoIn case the San Francisco 49ers continue to use wide receiver Deebo Samuel as a running back this year, he has incentives in his new contract that could pay him an extra $1.95 million over the life of the contract for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, according to sources. Samuel and the Niners agreed on a three-year, $71.55 million contract extension on Sunday, and he'll be eased back into training camp practices after holding out to begin camp. The 26-year-old finished last year as the WR2 in fantasy, mainly because of his 59 rushing attempts for an extra 365 yards and eight touchdowns, but he also secured 77 of his 120 targets for 1,405 yards and six TDs through the air. Even if Samuel isn't used quite as much out of the backfield in 2022, he'll be firmly in the mix as a top-10 fantasy receiver.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN - Adam Schefter
2 months agoSan Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel agreed to a three-year, $73.5 million extension, including $58.1 million in guarantees. The 26-year-old was a top fantasy producer last season, accumulating 1,405 yards and six touchdowns off 77 catches (121 targets). He also got some work out of the backfield, rushing for 365 yards off 59 attempts while adding eight more trips to the end zone. It was a roller coaster offseason for Samuel, who was expected to be moved after requesting a trade. However, he will stay with the Niners, which is good news for the developing Trey Lance. Nonetheless, although Samuel will remain a sought-after fantasy option heading into the 2022-23 campaign, he reportedly expressed a desire to see less work as a running back. As a result, the former Gamecock may see a dip in production, especially if Lance doesn't significantly improve upon his 57.7% completion percentage from his rookie year.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBallerSource: Nick Wagoner
