6 days agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (ankle) has left Sunday's start early after twisting his right ankle while fielding a bunt in the fourth inning. Cabrera threw some warmup pitches after the injury occurred, according to beat writer Christina De Nicola, but he was pulled from the contest anyway. Cabrera surrendered two earned runs to go along with three punchouts over 3 2/3 innings before leaving the game. The team should provide an update on his status shortly. Jeff Brigham has taken over for the Marlins.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBallerSource: Christina De Nicola of MLB.com

2 weeks agoMiami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Edward Cabrera improved to 6-3 in Monday's 10-3 win over the Cubs. Cabrera pitched 5 innings, allowing three runs on three hits (including a solo home run) and three walks with four strikeouts. The 24-year-old has been solid overall since joining the Marlins, compiling a 2.91 ERA with a 9.28 K/9 rate and a 4.57 BB/9 rate in 12 starts. The walks will need to be worked on for Cabrera to take the next step, but the rookie has shown plenty of signs of being a potential high-end fantasy starter of the future. His next start should be a favorable one against the Nationals at home.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

1 month agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera made the most of a strong matchup in Monday's 3-0 win over the Athletics. The 24-year-old rookie pitched 8 scoreless innings on two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Cabrera has only made seven starts this season but has gone 4-1 with a 1.41 ERA and a 10.10 K/9 rate. He has shown why fantasy managers have been excited about him in dynasty leagues and he may be able to help managers in redraft leagues down that stretch. That said, his next matchup will be a tough one against the Dodgers at home.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

2 months agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (elbow) has been activated off the 15-day injured list. The right-hander landed on the injured list in the middle of June with elbow tendinitis. Before that, Cabrera was posting a 3.45 ERA with 15 strikeouts in three starts with the Marlins. Cabrera will get the nod on Friday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The 25-year-old could be an interesting streaming option against the mediocre Cubbies lineup. In only three starts this year before his injury, Cabrera had a 3.45 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings pitched.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Jordan McPherson

2 months agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (elbow) was terrific in his Triple-A rehab start for Jacksonville, tossing five innings of shutout baseball in his team's win. The right-hander allowed just one hit on the evening while striking out seven and walking no one in the 61-pitch effort. This marks the third rehab start for Cabrera who is working his way back from elbow tendinitis that shelved him in the middle of June. Through 15 2/3 big-league innings so far in 2022, Cabrera held his own with six earned runs allowed (3.45 ERA), a 1.21 WHIP, and 15 punchouts. He'll get at least one more start in the minors before returning to the Marlins, and could prove to be a valuable fantasy asset for the final two months if he doesn't suffer any setbacks.--Riley Mrack - RotoBallerSource: MILB.com
Share:
2 months agoMiami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (elbow) is scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday in his third minor league rehab start. Cabrera got up to 52 pitches in his last outing and has been sidelined since June 13 with right elbow tendinitis. The 24-year-old tossed three scoreless frames and struck out seven while walking just one for Double-A Pensacola last Friday. If everything goes smoothly on Thursday, there's a chance that he could rejoin the Marlins rotation after that. Before his injury, Cabrera had allowed six earned runs on 10 hits while walking nine and striking out 15 in 15 2/3 innings over three starts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
3 months agoMiami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (elbow) is scheduled to make a rehab start for Double-A Pensacola on Saturday. Cabrera already took the mound on Monday to throw a live batting practice session as he attempts to make his way back to the field after a bout of tendinitis in his right elbow. The 24-year-old has made just three starts this season, posting a 2-1 record, 3.45 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts over 15 2/3 innings of work. Cabrera is worth an add off of waivers in case he was cut loose by a fantasy manager earlier in the season.--Matt T - RotoBallerSource: Jordan McPherson on Twitter
Share:
3 months agoMiami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (elbow) threw two innings of live batting practice in Jupiter, Fla., on Monday. He was scheduled to make a minor league rehab outing with Triple-A Jacksonville on June 22, but that was scrapped after he suffered a setback. It remains to be seen when the 24-year-old will be scheduled for another rehab outing, but he's getting closer. He's been on the injured list since June 15 with right elbow tendinitis, so it's unrealistic to expect him to return to the Marlins before the All-Star break. Cabrera has made only three starts this season, but he has allowed only six earned runs on 10 hits while striking out 15 and walking nine in 15 2/3 frames. He'll certainly be a rotation option for the Fish in the second half of the season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola
Share:
3 months agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (elbow) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Monday and is scheduled to throw another one on Thursday. Cabrera was scheduled to make a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on June 22, but that never happened due to a personal issue. He was placed on the injured list on June 15 and last pitched for Miami on June 12, when he went a season-low 3 2/3 innings in his third start of the year. The 24-year-old also had right biceps fatigue in early April. Cabrera might be ready to start a rehab assignment after his bullpen session, but at this rate, it's unlikely he'll be back to close out the first half of the season. In his three starts this year, Cabrera has allowed six earned runs on 10 hits while walking nine and striking out 15 in 15 2/3 innings.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola
Share:
3 months agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (elbow) has begun throwing from 90 feet, according to Marlins beat writer Jordan McPherson. Cabrera has been on the 15-day injured list for about two weeks due to right elbow tendinitis. He was slated for a rehab outing at Triple-A last week, but he wound up being scratched from the start to attend to a personal matter. The 24-year-old made three starts with the Marlins prior to landing on the injured list. He looked great in his first two outings, allowing just one earned run across 12 frames, but his third outing was a rough one as the Houston Astros tagged him for five runs over 3 2/3 innings.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBallerSource: Jordan McPherson
Share:
4 months agoThe Miami Marlins placed starting pitcher Edward Cabrera (elbow) on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with right elbow tendinitis and recalled left-hander Daniel Castano from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. The team also recalled pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis from Jacksonville, placed reliever Cole Sulser (lat) on the injured list and moved left-hander Jesus Luzardo to the 60-day IL. Cabrera allowed just one earned run while striking out 13 in 12 innings in his first two starts of the season, but he allowed five earned runs while walking three and striking out just two in 3 2/3 innings in his most recent start on June 12 against the Houston Astros. His elbow might've been bothering him in that start, though, and the 24-year-old should have a chance to return to Miami's rotation in two weeks.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola
Share:
4 months agoMiami Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera will make his second start of the season on Tuesday when the team takes on the Washington Nationals. The 24-year-old made his season debut last Wednesday and was extremely impressive. Despite having the unenviable task of pitching against the Rockies in Colorado, he threw six shutout innings and allowed just one hit and four walks while striking out nine. Cabrera struggled in his first taste of the majors in 2021, pitching to a 5.81 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP over seven starts. However, fantasy managers would be wise to put those 2021 stats in the rear view mirror. He's one of the Marlins' top pitching prospects and his high upside makes him worthy of a roster spot in just about all fantasy leagues.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
4 months agoThe Miami Marlins recalled right-hander Edward Cabrera from the minors on Wednesday, and he will start in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies. Cabrera will be making his eighth major league start and first this season after going 0-3 with a 5.81 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and 19 walks in 26 1/3 innings in his major league debut in 2021. There's a chance the 24-year-old could stick in the Marlins rotation if he fares well, so those in deeper leagues should pay attention. The team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, had allowed 12 earned runs on 20 hits while striking out 32 and walking 12 in 23 2/3 frames over five starts for Triple-A Jacksonville before his call-up.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Miami Herald - Jordan McPherson
Share:
5 months agoMiami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (biceps) will make a start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. Cabrera began the season in the minors in order to rehab his biceps injury, and he's made only one start for Low-A Jupiter, tossing four shutout innings with three walks and seven strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander is the team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He made his first seven big-league starts for the Fish last year and posted a 5.81 ERA, a 1.63 WHIP, 19 walks and 28 strikeouts over 26 1/3 innings. Cabrera has premium stuff, but he'll need to improve his control and command in order to have success the next time he's on a major league mound. Once healthy, he should be the next man up in Miami when a spot opens up in the rotation.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola
Share:
5 months agoMiami Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera (biceps) is scheduled to start at Single-A Jupiter on Thursday. Cabrera, who is ranked as the team's top pitching prospect by MLB Pipeline, is dealing with biceps muscle fatigue. He made his MLB debut last year, but struggled over his seven starts with the Marlins. He went 0-3 with a 5.81 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. Once he is healthy again, he will likely settle in at Triple-A, where he had a 3.68 ERA and 1.398 WHIP over six starts in 2021.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBallerSource: Christina De Nicola
