14 mins agoNew York Yankees pitcher Frankie Montas (shoulder) has been activated from the 60-day injured list on Saturday. The right-hander has missed the entire season while recovering from shoulder surgery. He'll make his return on Saturday and is expected to work in relief at some point this weekend. The 30-year-old is set to become a free agent after the season. That being said, Montas will get a chance to show both the Yankees and possible other suitors what he has to offer over the final few games of the regular season.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: New York Yankees

23 mins agoSan Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano (ankle) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. The Padres were taking things as day-to-day with Campusano, but it appears that wasn't working. Now, he'll land on the injured list, which basically means he's done for the season. The Padres figure to split up the playing time between Brett Sullivan and Chandler Seagle over the final few games of the regular season.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: CBS Sports

30 mins agoBaltimore Orioles relief pitcher Felix Bautista (elbow) is set to undergo Tommy John surgery, according to Nathan Ruiz. This is a shame after it appeared that Bautista was making good progress in his recovery. The 28-year-old will miss the rest of this season and the entire 2024 campaign as well. Awful news as Bautista emerged as an elite option out of the bullpen for the O's this season. It's uncertain how the team plans to address their closer situation heading into 2024. For now, Yennier Cano figures to see a majority of the save chances for the rest of this season.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Nathan Ruiz

4 hours agoNew York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (leg, shoulder) is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies. Nimmo has been dealing with a sore right leg and has been in and out of the lineup over the past week. It's not yet known if he will play in the second game of the doubleheader. Nimmo has put together a nice season overall for the Mets, slashing .274/.363/.466 with 24 home runs, 68 RBI, and three stolen bases over 592 at-bats. Both the home runs and the RBI are career highs for the 30-year-old. Rafael Ortega is starting in center field and batting leadoff against Taijuan Walker in Saturday's opening bill.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 hours agoBaltimore Orioles relief pitcher Bruce Zimmermann has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. The left-handed reliever will be taking the place of Jorge Lopez, who was designated for assignment. The 28-year-old has really struggled in the majors this season, albeit over a small sample size, posting a 5.56 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 12:10 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings of relief with Baltimore. He'll provide some bullpen depth over the final two regular season games for the O's.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBallerSource: Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports

4 hours agoBaltimore Orioles relief pitcher Jorge Lopez was designated for assignment on Saturday. Lopez was traded from the Twins to the Marlins prior to the trade deadline back in July. He proceeded to struggle mightily with Miami and was waived before subsequently being claimed by the Orioles in early September. He is ineligible for the O's postseason roster so this DFA makes sense. Lopez was all over the place this season, compiling a sloppy 6.12 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 47:21 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings of relief between the Twins, Marlins, and Orioles. Baltimore recalled left-handed reliever Bruce Zimmermann in a corresponding move.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBallerSource: Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports

5 hours agoCleveland Guardians outfielder Ramon Laureano is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers. This looks to just be a day off for the 29-year-old outfielder. Laureano struggled mightily with the A's to begin the season but has picked his game up since joining Cleveland in early August after Oakland designated him for assignment in early August. Overall, he's slashing .228/.308/.376 with nine home runs, 35 RBI, and 11 stolen bases over 356 at-bats. Will Brennan is starting in right field and will bat seventh against Will Vest and the Detroit Tigers.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

5 hours agoTampa Bay Rays rookie infielder Osleivis Basabe (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Basabe exited Friday's contest early after injuring his shoulder while diving for a ball at third base. Manager Kevin Cash told reporters after the game that the 23-year-old was sore and would need further evaluation. The former top prospect should be considered day-to-day as Taylor Walls takes his place in the lineup against Hyun Jin Ryu and the Blue Jays. The team should provide another update on Basabe prior to Sunday's regular-season finale.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

5 hours agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. George Springer is serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff, while Cavan Biggio draws a start in right field and is hitting in the two-hole against Rays right-handed opener Shawn Armstrong. Belt has gone deep in back-to-back games, but the 35-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran will get a day of rest before the regular season finale on Sunday. He's missed some time with injuries in his first year in Toronto, but overall Belt has been solid with a .252 average (83-for-329) with 17 homers and 41 RBI. He's played in just six games (five starts) in September due to injury, but he's gone 5-for-17 (.294) with two homers and a double.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 hours agoTampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz proved he's healthy by going 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a walk in Friday's 11-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Diaz had missed the team's previous two games this week as a precaution, but he returned with a bang on Friday. However, fantasy managers will need to remove the 32-year-old All-Star from their lineups again on Saturday as he's being rested before Sunday's regular season finale. Isaac Paredes is starting at first base and batting cleanup against Blue Jays left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu. The Rays are just looking to get Diaz a little bit of some extra rest before the start of the wild-card series next week against a still to-be-determined opponent.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

5 hours agoCincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson got in on the action in Friday's 19-2 demolition of the St. Louis Cardinals, going 1-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and a strikeout. The Reds hit three home runs in the fourth inning and six total on the night in an absolute beatdown in St. Louis. Stephenson does have a career-high 13 home runs on the year, but overall it's been a somewhat disappointing year for the Reds backstop. He's been splitting time of late behind the dish in Cincinnati with Luke Maile and is now hitting .245 on the year with a .701 OPS in a career-high 140 games played. The Reds remain alive for the final wild-card spot in the National League with two games left to play, but they are 1.5 games back of the Miami Marlins for the final spot.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Yency Almonte (knee) is starting a minor-league rehab assignment for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday. The Dodgers will have a first-round bye in the playoffs for the wild-card round, but Almonte probably won't be able to join the Dodgers in the postseason unless they advance to the National League Championship Series since he hasn't pitched since hurting his right knee on Aug. 11. The 29-year-old right-hander wasn't very good in his 49 relief appearances for the Blue this year anyway, posting a 5.06 ERA (4.59 FIP), 1.39 WHIP, 24 walks and 49 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
6 hours agoThe Tampa Bay Rays designated right-hander Erasmo Ramirez for assignment on Saturday and recalled right-hander Cooper Criswell from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Ramirez has made 37 appearances (two starts) this year for the Rays and Washington Nationals and hasn't been effective at all with a 6.12 ERA (4.82 FIP), 1.52 WHIP, 13 walks and 39 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings pitched. The Rays had seen enough from the 33-year-old after he gave up four earned runs on eight hits in just three innings of relief on Friday night in the 9-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. In his 30 1/3 innings for the Rays, he had a 5.93 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 26 strikeouts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Rays Communications

6 hours agoWashington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz was busy on Friday night in the team's 10-6 win over the Braves in Atlanta. Ruiz finished the contest 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI and three runs scored out of the cleanup spot for Washington. Ruiz is now on a modest five-game hitting streak and has gone 20-for-84 (.238) with a home run, three doubles, seven RBI and seven runs scored in 21 games (20 starts) in the final month of the season in September. The 25-year-old backstop is hitting nearly .300 since the All-Star break and has had his most productive big-league season by far in 2023, hitting .254 (129-for-508) with career-highs in homers (17), RBI (62) and runs scored (50) in 133 games.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
6 hours agoWashington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI in the team's 10-6 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. Garcia was struggling so badly that he was sent to the minors in the second half of the season. Since his return on Sept. 8, he's gone 18-for-60 (.300) with three home runs, three doubles, seven RBI, a stolen base and 13 runs scored in 19 games (16 starts) for the Nats. The strong stretch has boosted his season slash line to .265/.300/.381 in 438 at-bats, and he's added nine home runs, 49 RBI, nine stolen bases and 59 runs scored. The 23-year-old is looking to finish his fourth MLB campaign off strong and should enter the 2024 season as the club's primary second baseman.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
