Jake Bauers Still Dealing With Shin Splints
Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers (shin) remains out of Wednesday's starting lineup against the division-rival Chicago Cubs at American Family Field while he manages shin splints, per MLB.com. Andrew Vaughn is starting at first base for the Brew Crew and will bat cleanup against Cubs veteran right-hander Kevin Gausman. It will be the third straight game that Bauers has been held out of as he continues to deal with shin splints. But with another day off coming on Thursday for travel, fantasy managers could get the left-handed slugger back for Friday's series opener versus the division-rival Cincinnati Reds. Check back then. The 30-year-old veteran has had a breakout year in 2026 with Milwaukee, slashing .268/.395/.490 with an .884 OPS, 24 home runs, 78 RBI, 82 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases across his 429 at-bats. Bauers hit .295 in 24 games in August, but he has struggled so far in September, going 2-for-17 with a homer, two RBI, 12 walks, and seven strikeouts in eight games. The Brewers' priority will be to have Bauers at 100% for the start of the playoffs in October.

Zac Gallen Reinstated and Starting on Wednesday Against Royals
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced that they reinstated right-hander Zac Gallen (elbow) from the 60-day injured list, and he will make his return to the starting rotation for Wednesday's matchup on the road against the hosting Kansas City Royals. The 31-year-old veteran will rejoin the big-league roster as the D-backs continue their push for the final wild-card spot in the National League over the final few weeks of the regular season. Gallen has been sidelined for the last two months due to inflammation in his right elbow, and although the matchup is a tasty one in KC in his return, fantasy managers will not be running to the waiver wire to pick him up to start him on Wednesday. Before going on the IL, Gallen was struggling in 2026 for the Snakes, going 3-9 with a career-worst 6.34 ERA (5.31 FIP) and 1.56 WHIP with 61 strikeouts and 31 walks in 98 innings across 19 starts in his eighth year in the majors. Despite his return to the big-league roster, Gallen is currently rostered in only 27% of Yahoo leagues.

Jac Caglianone Still Out on Wednesday
Kansas City Royals first baseman/outfielder Jac Caglianone (elbow) remains sidelined for Wednesday's contest against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks at Kauffman Stadium, according to MLB.com. John Rave will make the start in right field and will bat seventh for the Royals against Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen, who is making his return from the injured list. Caglianone is dealing with a flexor strain in his left elbow and will miss a fourth straight start for the Royals. If he is not ready to return to the starting nine for Friday's series opener against the Boston Red Sox after another day off on Friday, the Royals may consider moving him to the injured list. That would be really bad timing for fantasy managers who are in the playoffs right now, as the 23-year-old left-handed slugger has turned into a must-start power bat in KC in his first full MLB season in 2026. Caglianone is currently hitting .283/.331/.494 on the season with an .825 OPS, 23 home runs, 70 RBI, 66 runs scored, and six stolen bases across his 474 at-bats.

Gunnar Henderson Out With Foot Injury on Wednesday
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson (foot) is not in the team's starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians, according to MLB.com. Jackson Holliday is making the start at shortstop for the O's and is hitting fifth against Guardians left-hander Foster Griffin. Henderson will take a seat on Wednesday after fouling a ball off his foot in Tuesday's game against Cleveland. With Baltimore having a day off for travel on Thursday, fantasy managers should expect Henderson to return to the starting nine in Toronto for Friday's series opener against the Blue Jays. Henderson has 22 home runs on the season, but otherwise he has been a disappointment again for fantasy managers after his breakout 2024 campaign in which he hit 37 home runs, drove in 92 runs, and stole 21 bases in 159 games played. He enters play on Wednesday with a .219/.303/.395 slash line with a career-worst .698 OPS, 22 homers, 57 RBI, 10 steals, and 83 runs scored across 145 games and 647 plate appearances. Henderson has really struggled since the second half, hitting .208/.322/.376 with five homers, nine doubles, three triples, 14 RBI, 28 runs, three steals, 27 walks, and 41 strikeouts in 49 games.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Going on Injured List With Sprained Thumb
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. (thumb) will require a stint on the injured list after suffering a sprained right thumb in Tuesday's game, according to Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record. Chisholm will not do any baseball activities for seven to 10 days. With the starting second baseman going on the shelf, shortstop Anthony Volpe is an option to be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for more middle-infield depth at the big-league level. The speedy Jose Caballero is starting at the keystone on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. It is bad timing for Chisholm to go down with an injury, but the good news is the Yankees just got All-Star slugger Aaron Judge back for the first time since a stress fracture in his rib in late May. Given the timing of Chisholm's injury, he may not be back for the Yankees in the regular season to close out September, and fantasy managers definitely should not expect him to help in playoff matchups. The 28-year-old leads the league with 40 stolen bases in 461 at-bats in 2026 while also slashing .232/.312/.403 with 19 home runs, 55 RBI, and 68 runs scored.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Out With Thumb Injury on Wednesday
New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. (thumb) is not in the team's starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the visiting Colorado Rockies, per MLB.com. Chisholm will sit out after being pulled from Tuesday's series opener in the Bronx early due to a right-thumb injury that he suffered on a slide into second base. Jose Caballero will make the start at the keystone on Wednesday and will hit out of the nine-hole against Rockies right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano. As of now, fantasy managers should consider Chisholm to be day-to-day and check back on him on Thursday to see if he is available to return for the series finale against Colorado. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger and two-time All-Star is one of the best power/speed options in fantasy at the second base position, but he also has third base eligibility in Yahoo leagues. The seven-year veteran enters play on Wednesday with a .232/.312/.403 slash line, .715 OPS, 19 home runs, 55 RBI, a league-high 40 stolen bases, and 68 runs scored across his 134 games and 520 plate appearances. Chisholm's power has been down after hitting a career-high 31 homers in 2025 in his first year in the Bronx, but he has made up for it by tying his career high with 40 thefts.

Chase DeLauter Returns From Wrist Sprain on Wednesday
Cleveland Guardians rookie outfielder Chase DeLauter (wrist) is starting in right field and will bat second on Wednesday against the hosting Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Shane Baz, according to MLB.com. DeLauter is returning to the diamond on Wednesday after missing each of the last four games due to a sprained right wrist that he suffered late last week. Surprisingly, the rookie left-handed-hitting outfielder avoided a stint on the injured list and will be back in action at Camden Yards on Wednesday. Fantasy managers are hoping that the 24-year-old is not slowed down at the plate at all by his recent wrist injury. The former first-rounder has been one of the most consistent rookie hitters this year, slashing .294/.365/.458 with an .823 OPS, 13 home runs, 60 RBI, 10 stolen bases, and 56 runs scored across 445 total at-bats. DeLauter is coming off an excellent month of August, too, in which he hit .363 (29-for-80) with a .977 OPS, two home runs, four doubles, two triples, nine RBI, 17 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 22 games. Get him back into your starting lineup against Baz and the O's on Wednesday.

Masyn Winn Scratched From Wednesday's Lineup With Thumb Soreness
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (thumb), who was activated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, was scratched from Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants with more soreness in his left thumb, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Thomas Saggese made the start at the 6 for St. Louis and was hitting seventh against Giants right-hander Blade Tidwell. It appears that Winn is not fully recovered from the fractured left thumb that caused him to miss over two weeks recently. If the Cardinals place him back on the IL, Winn will almost certainly miss the rest of the 2026 season. The 24-year-old has been a disappointment for fantasy managers in 2026 in his fourth year in the big leagues, as he is currently hitting .236/.312/.323 with a .635 OPS, only five home runs, 51 RBI, 10 stolen bases, and 49 runs scored across 123 games and 494 plate appearances. The former second-rounder has been really poor in the second half, hitting just .218 (26-for-119) with a homer, 15 walks, and 35 strikeouts in 36 games and 137 plate appearances.

Garrett Crochet Throws Around 20 Pitches in Side Session
Boston Red Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet (shoulder) threw around 20 pitches during a side session of mostly fastballs on Tuesday, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. It was Crochet's second side session in five days. "Looked good," said interim manager Chad Tracy. "I just briefly talked to him. He felt good too. So, looked good and felt good. Good step in the right direction. I don't know the next steps yet. Probably another side sometime this weekend." In a very frustrating 2026 season, Crochet had been shut down from throwing for nearly three months due to a left-shoulder and lat injury. He could start facing live hitters at some point next week, but given the time of the year, he is unlikely to have time to go on a minor-league rehab assignment, with Triple-A Worcester's season ending on Sept. 20. There is a slim chance that Crochet goes from throwing live batting practice to pitching for Boston very late in the regular season, but even in that scenario, he will be returning as a reliever out of the bullpen and not a starter. But that is far from guaranteed, and there is even the possibility that he does not make the postseason roster if the BoSox make the playoffs.

Pete Fairbanks Returns From Injured List on Wednesday
The Miami Marlins announced on Wednesday that they reinstated right-handed closer Pete Fairbanks (hand) from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-hander Bradley Blalock to Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move. Fairbanks only missed the required 15 days on the IL for his second trip to the IL this year due to medial nerve irritation in his right pitching hand. He will return to Miami's bullpen without going on a minor-league rehab assignment, so the Fish could ease him back into the fold in lower-leverage situations upon his return. The 32-year-old veteran has been Miami's primary ninth-inning option this year when healthy, but he has been a headache for fantasy managers, as he has gone 4-5 with a 6.02 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in addition to his 18 saves in his 40 1/3 innings pitched. Fairbanks may not see many closing opportunities the rest of the way, if any at all, even though he appears to have recovered from his hand injury. Fairbanks is only rostered in 60% of Yahoo leagues with the fantasy playoffs underway in most leagues.

Corbin Carroll Out With Back Injury, to Undergo Testing
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll (back) will not start in Wednesday's game in Kansas City against the Royals and is scheduled to have tests done on his lower back on Thursday when the team returns home, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. Carroll has not started for the D-backs since Sunday, but he came off the bench in Monday's extra-inning win over KC. The 26-year-old will have two more days to rest -- the Snakes have a scheduled day off on Thursday -- before potentially returning for Friday's series opener against the Texas Rangers on Friday if his test results look fine on Thursday. For now, fantasy managers should consider the All-Star outfielder to be day-to-day. Arizona can ill-afford to lose Carroll for any stretch of time as they battle the San Diego Padres for the final wild-card spot in the National League down the stretch. The former first-rounder is a must-start in fantasy for his five-category upside, but he has struggled in the second half, slashing .215/.310/.442 with a .752 OPS, six home runs, 11 doubles, six triples, 16 RBI, 11 stolen bases, 31 runs scored, 22 walks, and 44 strikeouts in 48 games since the All-Star break. In six games in September, he has gone 3-for-22 (.136) with no walks and eight punchouts.

George Springer Dealing With Left-Shoulder Issue
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (shoulder) was held out of the starting lineup again on Wednesday against the hosting Athletics due to a left-shoulder issue that also cost him two games in August, among other things, according to Theo DeRosa of MLB.com. "I think it's just kind of that point in the season. He's available today if we need him," manager John Schneider said. Catcher Alejandro Kirk got the start as the designated hitter on Wednesday and was hitting cleanup, with Brandon Valenzuela doing the catching for right-hander Braydon Fisher and batting eighth against A's left-hander Brady Basso. It is the second straight day that Springer has been held out, but it sounds like a day-to-day situation, so the veteran could be back as early as Friday's series opener against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles after a scheduled day off on Thursday to travel back to Toronto. Despite being a little banged up since last month, Springer hit .321 (27-for-84) with an .858 OPS, two homers, six doubles, a triple, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, and four steals in 27 games in August. However, he has gone just 3-for-23 (.130) with a walk and five strikeouts so far in six games in September.

Jacob Lombard Shows Off Tools in Professional Debut
Miami Marlins infield prospect Jacob Lombard capped off his professional debut with a home run and a stolen base in his last game at Single-A. It was an uneven showing through the first 22 games for the Marlins' fourth-ranked prospect, collecting six multi-hit efforts, including four home runs and 11 stolen bases, but he hit just .220 with a 39.4 percent strikeout rate. Even so, the future is still bright for the former first-rounder, who should show improvements in his first full season of professional baseball next year. There is 55-grade pop in his bat per MLB.com, along with 65-grade speed, so there is plenty to like about the 6-foot-3 slugger in terms of fantasy potential. The hit tool is the wild card here, but with his pedigree (brother of George Lombard Jr., who is already in the majors at age 21), assume he'll make the proper adjustments, and the power/speed upside is worth the batting average risk, leaving the 18-year-old as a worthy top-five pick in first-year player drafts.

Jason Schiavone Moving Up to Triple-A Sugar Land
Houston Astros catcher/first base prospect Jason Schiavone has been promoted to Triple-A for the remainder of the 2026 season. The Astros' sixth-ranked prospect started the year at High-A, powering his way to Double-A after just 35 games (17 home runs, 1.218 OPS). The JMU product saw his batting average dip to just .233 at the higher level, but he continued to display his trademark power (14 home runs) and ability to draw walks (14.5 percent) during his 79-game tenure there. A 33.0 percent strikeout rate is concerning, though, so it is worth keeping an eye on at Triple-A. The 6-foot-1 backstop moves well for a catcher, having swiped 29 bags this season in 114 total games, and could make quick work of Triple-A next year if he can continue to produce home runs and keep the strikeouts to a palatable level. With a rare power/speed combination for a catcher, there is some fantasy intrigue here, though he's not yet a must-stash in dynasty leagues.

Heriberto Hernandez an Intriguing Power/Speed Bat to Target
Across 426 plate appearances in 2026, Miami Marlins outfielder Heriberto Hernandez is hitting .228/.312/.466 with 24 home runs, 63 RBI, 45 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. With a 27.5% strikeout rate, Hernandez profiles as a batting average drain for fantasy managers. However, the 26-year-old carries high-end power upside with a 13.7% barrel rate and a 47.3% hard-hit rate. Hernandez also offers some intriguing speed potential, as he's 11-for-15 as a base stealer this season and has logged six stolen bases since the All-Star break. In leagues where he remains available on the waiver wire, Hernandez profiles as one of the more appealing power/speed targets for fantasy managers.
