Despite coming off of a promising end to the 2020-21 season, the Minnesota Wild are parting ways with two key veterans: forward Zach Parise and defenseman Ryan Suter. Both players were placed on waivers on Tuesday and will have the final four seasons of their respective contracts bought out. Both players signed identical 13-year, $98 million contracts in 2012. Along with providing significant cap relief in 2021-22, the moves will allow the club to protect two more players during the expansion draft, which will fill the roster of the Seattle Kraken. The new club enters the league for the 2021-22 season. Colorado will receive more than $10 million in savings next year but will have significant penalties levied against them during years two to four of the eight-year buyout. --Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
