Yankees Not Considering Sending Anthony Volpe Down
1 year agoNew York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said sending rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe down to the minor leagues is not something the team is considering. "What I'm seeing is in my opinion a guy that is still helping us win games but I'm confident will continue to be in the middle of helping us win games," Boone said. Volpe isn't helping the Yankees much with his bat this year, as he's hitting a weak .186 (42-for-226) with five doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 26 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 24 runs scored in his first 67 major-league contests. The 22-year-old has only three hits in 25 at-bats (.120) with a homer and nine strikeouts in the first nine games of June. If he doesn't pick it up soon, the Yankees will be considering sending him down to the farm. Meanwhile, Oswald Peraza is hitting over .300 with 10 homers for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
