Xavier Edwards to Play Second Base When he Returns
Xavier Edwards (back) will start his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, and MLB.com's Christian De Nicola reports that the Marlins plan for Edwards to move to second base when he comes off the 10-day injured list and keep Otto Lopez at shortstop. Edwards will play second base for the Jumbo Shrimp on Thursday. The 25-year-old played the keystone when he debuted in the big leagues in 2023 before he was moved to the 6 last year. The Marlins said on Wednesday that Edwards should only need a couple of rehab games, so it's possible that he rejoins the team for this weekend's series against the San Francisco Giants. Edwards has minimal power for a middle infielder but he already has 11 steals in 42 games this year and stole 31 bags in 70 contests a year ago. Adding second base eligibility will make him even more valuable in fantasy.
