Whit Merrifield Makes First All-Star Team
5 years agoKansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Whit Merrifield has officially been named to the All-Star team for the first time in his career. Merrifield earned the honor by hitting .301 with 11 home runs, 11 stolen bases, 59 runs scored, and 48 RBI in the first half of the season. Merrifield has been a staple at the top of KC's lineup for the last three seasons after dominating Triple-A to start 2017, and though he's a bit more seasoned than many players early in their big-league career, Merrifield has put up outstanding numbers in a short time. Though he never stole more than 32 bases in a single minor-league season, Merrifield has led the American League in steals the past two years and should easily top 20 again in 2019. He's a worthy All-Star and should do the Royals proud.
