New Jersey Devils goaltender Vitek Vanecek is the likely starting goaltender for Thursday's road game versus the Pittsburgh Penguins. The former Washington Capitals netminder was pulled early in his last start after allowing three goals on just five shots in an eventual 4-2 loss to his former club his last time out. Youngster Akira Schmid started the club's next game on Tuesday in Winnipeg but allowed five goals himself in a 6-3 loss. The Devils have been unable to get much from either of their netminders so far this season with Vanecek entering Thursday's contest sporting a 3.45 goals-against average and an .887 Sv% in 10 appearances with Schmid carrying a 3.46 GAA and .885 Sv% in his six outings. Vanecek will take on a dangerous Penguins offense that is tied for seventh in overall offense this season.--Brenton Kemp
