Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent safety Tyrann Mathieu wants a four-year deal in free agency, but the Chiefs might only want to go two years to re-sign him. The starting line for a new contract could be at $16 million per year. But in free agency, Mathieu could be offered a deal worth $18 million per year, which would make him the league's highest-paid safety. If it gets to that point, the Chiefs might not be willing to match such an offer with plenty of other needs on their roster. The 29-year-old made his third Pro Bowl in 2021 by recording 76 tackles (60 solo), three interceptions (one for a touchdown), three fumble recoveries and one sack in 16 regular season games. As the leader of the Chiefs defense, Mathieu would be a big loss if he leaves for more money elsewhere.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
