Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Trevor Cahill, just recalled from the disabled list, lost to Chris Sale and the Red Sox on Wednesday 6-4. Cahill dug a hole for himself early by allowing three runs in the first inning, primarily from a two-run shot by J.D. Martinez. He settled down after that and finished the game with only the three earned runs in five innings while walking one but only striking out one. It was a tough assignment as the first one off the DL, but Cahill has had a great year thus far, though his 1-2 record doesn’t demonstrate it. He will have a more favorable matchup against Seattle at home in his next start.--Ellis Canady - RotoBaller
