Trevor Bauer Wins NL Cy Young Award Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Trevor Bauer won the National League Cy Young Award on Wednesday over Cubs starter Yu Darvish and Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom. Bauer led the NL in ERA (1.73), ERA+ (276), WHIP (0.79), opponents' average (.159) and shutouts (two). The 29-year-old was second to only deGrom in strikeouts (100) and strikeouts per nine innings (12.3). Bauer finished strong as well, landing a 1.29 ERA in five September starts to fend of deGrom, who had won the award the previous two seasons. He also rejected the Reds $18.9 million qualifying offer, officially making him a free agent this winter. Especially after his Cy Young season, Bauer will be the most coveted free-agent arm on the open market, and he'll be a surefire fantasy ace no matter where he winds up.
