Tre'Quan Smith Undergoes Surgery, To Miss Season Opener
1 year agoNew Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (groin) underwent surgery in August and is expected to miss the Week 1 regular season opener against the Tennessee Titans. Smith also missed most of training camp and all three preseason games due to the injury, so there's easily a chance that he misses more than one regular season game for the Saints while he recovers. Rashid Shaheed (groin) is also battling injury and could be slowed early on, which could give both Keith Kirkwood and A.T. Perry some opportunities behind Chris Olave and Michael Thomas. Smith's playing time dropped down the stretch last year as Shaheed impressed, and he finished with just 19 catches, 278 receiving yards and one touchdown in 15 games (six starts). The 27-year-old is off the fantasy radar for now.
