Trea Turner 2022 Player Outlook: Number One Pick Getting Long Overdue Recognition
3 years agoSince 2019, Trea Turner has been a regular first-round pick in fantasy drafts, but in 2022 Turner is going as the number one overall pick, more than anyone. Having second base and shortstop eligibility is part of that but the big reason is his consistency at contributing in all five fantasy categories. Between 2016 to 2019, Turner averaged 114 games with 16 homers and 39 stolen bases, while hitting .293/.349/.470. In 2020's shortened season, Turner had 12 homers and 12 steals in 59 games which equates to 33 home runs and 33 stolen bases over 162 games. In 2021, Turner had a .328 average with 28 homers and 31 steals in 148 games. He also had career highs in runs (107) and RBI (77), aided by the trade to the Dodgers. Playing in LA should help Turner with those counting stats as he'll be surrounded by a better lineup. And if he maintains the increase in fly balls after having a career-high 23.5% FB% in 2021, he should be able to repeat last year's career-high 28 home runs. With stolen bases more in demand than ever, Turner's career 162-game average of 48 steals while contributing across all other categories makes him worthy of being the number one overall pick.
