The Detroit Tigers selected Arizona State first baseman/third baseman Spencer Torkelson with the first overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft on Wednesday. Torkelson wasn't drafted out of high school, but he quickly showed at ASU that his bat was elite, particularly because of its power. Not only can he drive the ball with authority to all fields, but he has excellent plate discipline and draws a bunch of walks. Torkelson doesn't sell out for his power. The 20-year-old has taken grounders at third base and has also played some left field, but he should stick at first base on his way to the big leagues. Some scouts say that Torkelson is the most major league-ready bat they've ever seen. It's why he's the first overall pick in this year's draft.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
