Tarik Skubal Shows Plenty Of Promise
3 years agoOn a team full of promising rookie performances in fantasy, Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal's 2021 season was perhaps the most encouraging of all. The 25-year-old set a Tigers rookie record with 164 strikeouts in 149.1 innings while also pitching to a 4.34 ERA and a 5.09 FIP. His biggest issue was the long ball. The left-hander surrendered 2.11 home runs per nine innings last season, hardly a sustainable number. One of the game's top pitching prospects prior to making his Major League debut, Skubal was limited to three and four-inning starts during the stretch run as the Tigers looked to limit his innings total. With a slightly more regular innings workload this next season, Skubal should be able to rack up more strikeouts. His bat-missing ability and velocity as a left-hander give him immense upside. Plus, the fact that Detroit should be competitive and pushing for a playoff spot next season with an improved lineup only boosts the left-hander's value as it could lead to more pitcher wins. His ADP, per NFBC, is currently 188. If you're looking for a pitcher to draft with significant potential late in drafts, similar to Trevor Rogers last season, Skubal is the pitcher for you.
