Tarik Cohen 2019 Player Outlook: Erratic and Unpredictable
6 years agoThere is no denying that Tarik Cohen is an electric playmaker capable of taking just about any touch to the house. I have no concerns that Cohen won't be at least a solid RB2 in 2019. My concerns lie with his week to week volatility. In 2018, Cohen's performance was directly tied to splash plays or target volume. Cohen posted five RB1 weeks (stretching to include an RB13 week). In all five of those weeks, Cohen saw at least eight targets. Outside of unpredictable splash plays, Cohen consistently did not produce when he did not see volume in the passing game. The problem is that Cohen's passing game volume was completely unpredictable. Cohen probably won you your week four times, but he also lost it for you six times with single digit performances. Cohen touched the ball 170 times last year. I would expect that number to rise a little bit, but 10-12 touches a game seems about right. Of the course of the season, you won't be disappointed by Cohen. On a week to week basis, he will be frustrating to own. If I could make Cohen my RB3 as either the first guy off my bench or my Flex option, I would be thrilled. As my RB2, I'd prefer to look elsewhere because weekly 15+ touch RB1 is not in his range of outcomes.
