Tanner Houck Will Try To Throw Off A Mound Next Week
1 year agoBoston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck (face) is in the early stages of a throwing program that he started on July 11, and the plan is for him to try and throw off a mound around next Tuesday. The Red Sox have been pleased with his progress after having surgery to fix a facial fracture. "He feels good," said manager Alex Cora. "He's been able to do his workouts, keeping his arm moving, which is the most important thing. And that's the reason he's been able to play catch." The 27-year-old hasn't pitched since June 16, so there's a good chance he'll need to make at least a few minor-league rehab starts before returning to Boston's starting rotation. After being used mostly in relief in 2022, Houck had a 5.05 ERA (4.23 FIP) in 13 starts before his injury this year, but he had fanned 64 batters in 67 2/3 innings.
