New York Islanders forward Simon Holmstrom could skate on the club's top line for Saturday's season opener at home versus the Buffalo Sabres. The 22-year-old skated with Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal on the top unit in Thursday's practice and could very well end up skating with the club's top two offensive players to begin the season. A 2019 first-round draft pick, Holmstrom tallied six goals and nine points in 50 games with the Islanders last season while also notching three goals and five points across 16 games with the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Bridgeport. The Swede is certainly well off the fantasy radar for the time being, but he is certainly getting a big opportunity at the outset of the 2023-24 season.--Brenton Kemp
