Shelby Miller Could Face Hitters Again on Friday
Shelby Miller (back, forearm) and left-hander Jalen Beeks (back) will throw to live hitters on Friday. Miller had his session against live hitters cut short on Tuesday after only 16 pitches due to back tightness, but the fact that the 34-year-old could throw again in a few days means the D-backs aren't particularly concerned about his back ailment. Miller went on the 15-day injured list in early July with a strained right forearm. It's unclear if Arizona will require him to go on a minor-league rehab assignment if he comes out of Friday's session without any issues. When Miller is back, he should immediately return to being the team's primary closer in the wake of all the injuries to their bullpen arms in 2025. Anthony DeSclafani picked up the last save on Sunday, but Kevin Ginkel could see chances, too, until Miller returns.
