Ryan McMahon Expected To See Less Time
6 years agoColorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon was up against Garrett Hampson in spring training for the second base job, but he seems to have won that since Hampson's been sent down after a terrible first month. Unfortunately, instead of getting a breather, McMahon's just gotten more celebrated competition. Top prospect Brendan Rodgers was called up to play second base, and manager Bud Black has told reporters he intends to get a good long look at Rodgers. McMahon hasn't done anything impressive so far this season, but he may end up being another victim of the ridiculous game Colorado has played with their prospects. In previous seasons, youngsters like David Dahl, Raimel Tapia, McMahon, Hampson, and now Rodgers have all been jerked around between the minor and major leagues while playing time has instead been handed to poorly performing veterans like Ian Desmond, Gerardo Parra, Pat Valaika, Mark Reynolds, and Carlos Gonzalez. While it looks bad for McMahon at the moment, there's no predicting how Rockies management is really going to handle Rodgers and McMahon. Any believers should wait and see for now.
