Riley Greene Rests Against Southpaw
1 year agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene is out of the team's starting lineup on Friday against left-hander Chris Sale and the Boston Red Sox. Matt Vierling is getting the starting nod in center field on Friday and will hit leadoff for the Tigers against Sale, who is making his first start back from the injured list. The veteran left-hander will only throw four innings in his return. Greene is actually hitting .307 (23-for-75) against left-handed pitchers in 2023, but none of his 10 home runs have come against them. The 22-year-old left-handed hitter missed some time earlier this year due to injury, but when he's been healthy he's been excellent, slashing .301/.365/.474 with an .839 OPS, 10 long balls, 27 RBI, six stolen bases and 45 runs in 306 at-bats as the team's starting center fielder.
