Reds Sign Austin Wynns To One-Year Deal
1 year agoThe Cincinnati Reds signed free-agent catcher Austin Wynns to a one-year, $950,000 major-league deal on Thursday and designated outfielder T.J. Hopkins for assignment in a corresponding move. Wynns will head to Cincinnati to provide catching depth behind Tyler Stephenson and Luke Maile at the big-league level in 2024. The 33-year-old veteran bounced around the National League West in 2023 with the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies and played in 51 games, going 27-for-130 (.208) with a home run, six doubles, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored in 145 plate appearances. Wynns will come into next year with zero fantasy appeal while hitting .226 with 13 home runs and 61 RBI in 231 games in his five years in the major leagues.
