Red Sox Re-Sign Mitch Moreland
5 years agoThe Boston Red Sox re-signed first baseman Mitch Moreland to a one-year, $3 million deal on Tuesday, according to a major league source. The deal includes a $3 million club option for the 2021 season that includes a $500,000 buyout. Pitcher Denyi Reyes was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Moreland, a two-time Gold Glove winner, hit .252/.328/.507 with 19 home runs and 58 RBI in 91 games while missing time with multiple injuries in 2019. He has hit .247/.326/.455 with 56 home runs and 205 RBI in 364 games with the Red Sox the last three years. Moreland will mostly play first base against right-handed pitchers and can be a solid corner infielder in deep mixed and AL-only leagues for his power in a good lineup. He could serve in a platoon with Michael Chavis or Bobby Dalbec.
