Red Sox Officially Add Kevin Pillar
5 years agoThe Boston Red Sox officially signed outfielder Kevin Pillar to a one-year, $4.25 million deal on Friday, according to a major league source. There are no incentives or bonuses included in the deal. The 31-year-old has played in the majors for seven seasons and spent the first six years of his career with Toronto before being traded to the Giants last year. He hit .264/.293/.442 with 21 home runs and 87 RBI for the Giants in 2019 and will give Boston a right-handed option in the outfield alongside lefties Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Alex Verdugo. With Verdugo a question mark to be ready for Opening Day, Pillar is likely to see significant playing time early on, and he could be a nice low-risk power bat late in mixed league drafts. Pillar has mostly been a center fielder, but he can play all three outfield positions and will mostly play against left-handed pitching (.766 career OPS against them).
