Tampa Bay Rays closer Pete Fairbanks secured the 4-2 victory over the Padres on Sunday, pitching a clean ninth to record his sixth save of the season. Other than a tad too many walks, Fairbanks has been good this season, posting a 2.38 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and a 6:10 BB:K over 11 1/3 innings pitched. The 6-foot-6 hurler has saved 48 games for the Rays over the previous two seasons, but spent time on the injured list twice last year which has been a theme throughout his career, never having pitched more than 45 1/3 innings in the majors. If he can remain healthy this year, it looks like he'd be on track to potentially set career highs in IP and saves, although he doesn't strike out nearly as many as he used to, down to a career low of 7.94 K/9 thus far in 2025. --Jarod Rupp
