Paul Skenes Signs With Pirates
1 year agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates signed right-hander Paul Skenes, the first overall pick in this year's MLB draft, for a major-league record $9.2 million. The slot value for the first overall pick was $9.721 million. Skenes, who could easily be pitching in the big leagues later this year, will start his professional career in the Florida Complex League. The 21-year-old hard-throwing starter was absolutely electric for LSU on his way to helping them win the College World Series this year. He was being talked about as possibly the best pitching prospect of all time. Skenes has a high-90s fastball, a plus slider and a changeup as his third pitch. He was able to strike out 200 hitters with just 19 walks in 114 2/3 innings in his final collegiate season. Skenes is the real deal.
