New York Mets left-hander
Sean Manaea will start on Sunday against the Washington Nationals, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Right-hander
Clay Holmes had been scheduled for the start, but he'll instead follow Manaea in relief. The Mets went with the opposite arrangement on Sept. 16 (Holmes started, Manaea came out of the bullpen) and pulled off an 8-3 win over the San Diego Padres. Manaea threw five frames of one-run ball to earn the victory in his second relief outing of 2025. In 12 appearances (10 starts) this season, the 33-year-old has gone 2-3 with a 5.40 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts against 10 walks. He faced the Nationals on Aug. 21 and took the loss after surrendering four earned runs over 4 2/3 innings.

Kansas City Royals right-hander
Seth Lugo (back) is "a long shot" to pitch again this season, according to manager Matt Quatraro. Lugo has been on the 15-day injured list since Sept. 1 with a strained lower back, and after he had a setback in a Sept. 15 bullpen session, it appears his season is over. While Lugo's condition has improved since then, he still hasn't resumed throwing. After finishing as the American League Cy Young runner-up in 2024, the 35-year-old's production has gone backward this season. Lugo has made 26 starts and posted an 8-7 record with a 4.15 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, 125 strikeouts, and 55 walks in 145 1/3 innings.

The Cleveland Guardians have placed outfielder
Nolan Jones (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a strained right oblique and promoted outfielder
Petey Halpin from Triple-A Columbus. Jones came off the bench in the Guardians' 6-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday and had to exit after he began feeling discomfort in his side while swinging. The injury will end Jones' regular season, though he may be able to return in October if the Guardians improbably earn a playoff berth. They've won eight in a row to charge within 1 1/2 games of a wild-card spot and 2 1/2 of the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers. Jones played in 136 of the Guardians' games this season and hit a lackluster .211/.296/.304 with five homers, 34 RBI, 34 runs scored, and eight stolen bases in 403 plate appearances.

Milwaukee Brewers rookie right-hander
Jacob Misiorowski is scheduled to start on Wednesday against the San Diego Padres. However, the Brewers could have Misiorowski end the regular season out of the bullpen instead. Manager Pat Murphy said that it's "certainly a consideration" for Misiorowski to work as a reliever next time he pitches. The towering 23-year-old got off to a great start this season after a mid-June promotion, even earning an invitation to the All-Star Game in July, but has struggled in the second half. After spending the first two weeks of August on the 15-day injured list with a shin bruise, he posted a hideous 9.58 ERA in 10 1/3 innings last month. The hard-throwing Misiorowski has been better across four outings in September, though his 4.50 ERA over 20 frames this month is still below average. In 14 starts this season, Misiorowski has gone 5-3 with a 4.38 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, 84 strikeouts, and 28 walks in 63 2/3 innings.

Minnesota Twins right-hander
Pablo Lopez (forearm) exited Friday's 6-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians with forearm tightness and is expected to undergo an MRI on Saturday, per Matthew Leach of MLB.com. Lopez suffered the injury on a diving play in the third inning, but he stayed in through the fourth and allowed two earned runs on the night. This could bring an early end to an injury-marred season for Lopez, who returned on Sept. 5 after missing three months with a teres major strain in his shoulder. Lopez has made 14 starts this year and gone 5-4 with a 2.74 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, 73 strikeouts, and 20 walks in 75 2/3 innings.

Texas Rangers outfielder
Wyatt Langford (side) was out of the lineup for a 6-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Friday with "side tightness," manager Bruce Bochy said. Bochy added that Langford is day-to-day and may have to sit out Saturday's game. Side issues often lead to oblique injuries, which have been a problem for Langford this season. He has been on the 10-day IL twice this year with oblique strains (one on each side), giving the Rangers more incentive to play it safe with him. The 23-year-old has set career highs in homers (21) and stolen bases (21) while slashing .241/.342/.427 with 72 runs scored and 61 RBI in 567 plate appearances this season.
Alejandro Osuna filled in for Langford in left field on Friday.

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitching prospect
Bubba Chandler will start on Saturday against the Athletics, manager
Don Kelly announced. It'll be the third start for the highly touted Chandler, who has gone 2-1 with a 5.66 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and 19:4 K:BB over five appearances and 20 2/3 innings. The 23-year-old was brilliant last Saturday in a win over the Washington Nationals, whom he held to one run on two hits with seven strikeouts against no walks in six frames. He'll face a stiff test versus the Athletics' offense, which is seventh in the majors in OPS and 12th in runs scored in 2025. The A's rank an even better third and eighth, respectively, in those categories this month.

Athletics second baseman
Zack Gelof (shoulder) dislocated his left shoulder in a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday and will miss the rest of the season, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. Gelof suffered the injury on a diving play in the bottom of the fifth inning and exited the game immediately. This will go down as an injury-wrecked season for Gelof, who missed the first three months of the year as a result of a fractured hamate bone in his hand and a stress reaction in his rib cage. After making his 2025 debut on July 4, the 25-year-old slumped to a .174/.230/.272 line with two homers, seven RBI, 12 runs scored, and a stolen base over 30 games and 101 plate appearances.
Darell Hernaiz took over at second in Gelof's place on Friday and could get most of the playing time at the keystone for the rest of the season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they have placed reliever
Michael Kopech (knee) on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right knee and recalled righty
Will Klein from Triple-A Oklahoma City. This is the third trip to the IL this year for Kopech, who missed over two months after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee in early July. This issue doesn't seem nearly as serious, though, as manager Dave Roberts said that Kopech is still "pitchable." Nevertheless, it will end an injury-ravaged regular season for Kopech. The righty threw just 11 innings and put up a 2.45 ERA with a 1.73 WHIP, 12 strikeouts, 13 walks, and six holds.

Los Angeles Angels closer
Kenley Jansen did not travel to Colorado for the team's weekend series against the Rockies. The high altitude in Colorado can cause complications with Jansen's heart condition, so he stayed behind and will not be available to pitch again until the Angels return home on Sept. 23. This has been yet another strong season for the 37-year-old, who has been superb lately. Jansen has gone eight appearances in a row without giving up a hit or a run, which has lowered his ERA to 2.68 with a .98 WHIP, 52:19 K:BB, and 27 saves over 57 innings. With Jansen out,

Seattle Mariners right-hander
Bryan Woo (pectoral) was masterful in a 4-0 win over the Houston Astros on Friday. However, he exited early with a "little" bit of pectoral tightness, manager Dan Wilson told reporters. Woo is likely to undergo an MRI on Saturday. The 25-year-old tossed five innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts and a walk before coming back out for the sixth, throwing a couple of warmup pitches, and exiting with a trainer. Wilson doesn't seem concerned about the severity of Woo's injury, which is fortunate for AL West-leading Seattle as it closes in on a playoff berth. Woo has been one of the key reasons for the Mariners' success this season, having gone 15-7 with a 2.94 ERA, a .94 WHIP, and 198:61 K:BB over 186 2/3 innings. For now, he's scheduled to make his next start on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander
Jose Berrios is moving from the starting rotation to the bullpen, manager John Schneider announced. He's losing his spot to the recently promoted
Trey Yesavage, who will take on the Kansas City Royals in his second career start on Sunday. Berrios had been penciled in for that game, but the Jays are demoting the 31-year-old as a result of a prolonged slump. After Berrios posted a 5.83 earned-run average in June and a 4.64 ERA in July, he has logged a 5.56 mark in three outings this month. Overall, Berrios has gone 9-5 with a 4.06 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, 135 strikeouts, and 54 walks in 164 innings this season. He's about to enter unfamiliar territory as a reliever, having come out of the bullpen in just one of his 274 career appearances.

Tommy Edman is back in the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Edman has found himself on the bench in three of the last six games coming into Friday's contest. San Francisco Giants outfielder
Jung Hoo Lee is out of the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lee is now taking a seat for the second time in the last three games. His absence on Friday makes sense with left-hander
Clayton Kershaw on the mound for Los Angeles. Lee has been struggling lately as he's hitless over his last 20 at-bats. Hopefully, a night off will help him get back on track.
Drew Gilbert will take over in center field and bat ninth on Friday. Lee isn't someone that needs to be rostered in all 12-team formats right now.
