2 hours agoColorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) was out at Coors Field on Monday doing a full day of baseball activities before the series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rockies are still deciding if Rodgers will go on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque before he is reinstated from the injured list. Once he returns from the IL, rookie infielder Adael Amador is likely to head back to Double-A Hartford to continue his development. The 27-year-old Rodgers is eligible to come off the 10-day IL on Tuesday, but it remains to be seen if that will happen. Either way, he's close to rejoining Colorado as their everyday second baseman. The former first-rounder is having one of his better seasons in the big leagues to this point with a .275 average, three home runs, 22 RBI and 24 runs scored in 59 games.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: DNVR Sports - Patrick Lyons

2 hours agoColorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle (knee) is starting in center field and is batting leadoff for the Rockies on Monday for the series opener against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander James Paxton. Left-patellar tendonitis kept Doyle out the last two games, but he's feeling better now and is ready to roll to start the new week. The 26-year-old should be returned to starting fantasy lineups against a vulnerable left-hander while batting out of the leadoff spot. Doyle is hitting .268 (64-for-239) with five homers, 19 RBI and 18 stolen bases in his 67 games in 2024 after hitting just .203 with 10 homers and 22 steals in 126 games in his first year in the big leagues in 2023. Doyle has yet to homer against a southpaw this year, but he's gone 14-for-51 (.275) against them and is hitting over .300 in the last two weeks.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

3 hours agoArizona Diamondbacks shortstop prospect Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) is expected to miss an extended period of time after suffering an injury during Saturday's game with Triple-A Reno. The 21-year-old underwent an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury. It's not good news as it appears Lawlar has suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain. The current timetable for Lawlar is 4-to-6 weeks. This obviously doesn't impact the current D-Backs roster but this is a bummer considering Lawlar is one of the top prospects in the game right now.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: AZ Central
Share:
3 hours agoColorado Rockies relief pitcher Justin Lawrence (shoulder) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Monday. The right-hander will return to the bullpen after missing three weeks of action due to a shoulder strain. The assumption is that he'll work his way back into the closer mix, but this is a situation to avoid right now. Lawrence holds a 5.91 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 21 1/3 innings of work. Possibly some time off has helped Lawrence get back on track.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Rockies PR
Share:
3 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani will move up into the leadoff spot ahead of Monday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers will shake up their lineup and have Ohtani bat first and Will Smith bat second with Freddie Freeman in the three-hole. The move to put Ohtani in the leadoff spot appears to be a good one. He's coming off a two home run performance and is one of the best hitters in the game. He should get pitches to hit and has an added advantage of playing in Coors Field as well. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Ohtani in their lineups on Monday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com
Share:
3 hours agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Suarez has been designated for assignment by the organization on Monday. This doesn't come as much of a shock given how poorly Suarez has pitched this season. Most recently, Suarez gave up five runs in one inning during Sunday's outing against the San Francisco Giants. He holds a 8.15 ERA in 35 1/3 innings of work this season. In a corresponding move, right-hander Zach Plesac has been recalled to take the vacant spot on the roster. Plesac hasn't seen much success this season, so this is more of a wait-and-see type of situation.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Angels PR
Share:
3 hours agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. This comes a day after Rengifo suffered a wrist contusion during Sunday's contest. Rengifo mentioned to reporters afterwards that he believes he could play on Monday. However, the Angels are taking the cautious approach and giving him the night off. In his absence, Brandon Drury will cover second base and bat sixth in his return to action.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com
Share:
3 hours agoLos Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (hamstring) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The veteran slugger is back in the mix after missing nearly six weeks of action due to a strained hamstring. Drury was struggling with the bat before going down, so hopefully some time off will help him get back on track. He'll bat sixth and cover second base versus right-hander Chris Rodriguez on Monday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

4 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) said he threw off a mound during a bullpen session on Monday for the first time since having Tommy John surgery last June. deGrom threw around 15 pitches on Monday and felt good after throwing all fastballs. The 35-year-old veteran hurler will continue to build his arm up with more bullpen sessions before he's eventually allowed to start facing live hitters. Before returning, the Rangers will have deGrom go on a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment as well, so his return from the 60-day injured list is still a ways off. deGrom could be a candidate to return to Texas' starting rotation later in the second half of the season, and he'll be a wild card in terms of his fantasy value as he continues his recovery process from elbow reconstruction. Fantasy managers wouldn't be wise to expect much from a pitcher who has made only 17 starts the last two years combined.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Kennedi Landry
Share:
4 hours agoTexas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) will come off the 60-day injured list and make his next start with the Rangers in the majors. Manager Bruce Bochy didn't give an exact date for Scherzer's 2024 debut, but this weekend against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Scherzer allowed three earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out eight over 4 2/3 innings (79 pitches) in his final minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. Offseason back surgery kept the 39-year-old future Hall of Famer out for the start of the regular season, and a thumb injury pushed his rehab back even further. Scherzer could have a slight workload restriction in his first start back against an upstart Royals squad. He's no longer a fantasy ace, but when healthy, Scherzer still has the stuff to be a reliable midrange starter in fantasy in the right matchups.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: RangersToday.com - Jeff Wilson

Share:
5 hours agoWith Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia (elbow) unavailable early this week due to an ulnar-nerve issue in his right arm, right-hander Chad Green will serve as the team's closer, according to manager John Schneider. Remember, Jordan Romano (elbow) is on the injured list for the second time this year. Garcia had to be pulled from his save chance on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians after experiencing right-elbow soreness. Nate Pearson finished Sunday's contest, but it will be Green coming in for any save chances while Garcia is out this week. If Garcia isn't recovered by Friday, he could join Romano on the injured list, so the 33-year-old Green should be a priority waiver-wire pickup for fantasy managers in need of saves. Green has been hurt himself this year, but he's also been solid when healthy with a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in just 15 1/3 relief innings in 2024.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Sportsnet.ca - Ben Nicholson-Smith
Share:
5 hours agoAn MRI exam on Sunday on Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia (elbow) showed some ulna nerve symptoms in his right elbow but no structural damage, which manager John Schneider described as "great news." The Blue Jays are still determining the next steps on Garcia, and he could still land on the injured list. Pitcher Brandon Eisert is with the team on their taxi squad just in case. With Jordan Romano (elbow) on the injured list for the second time this year, Garcia has filled in as Toronto's primary closer, but now that role could fall to Chad Green for however long Garcia is out. The Jays aren't too concerned with Garcia's injury, and fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day this week. But if Garcia hasn't recovered by Friday, he could join Romano on the IL. If Green is available on your league's waiver wire, pick him up.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi

5 hours agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Nathan Lukes (thumb) underwent surgery to fix the UCL in his left thumb last Wednesday. There is no timeline on his return yet, but he's expected to return later this season. Lukes suffered a left-thumb injury while playing for Triple-A Buffalo. The 29-year-old made a strong bid for the regular season roster during spring training, and if the Blue Jays needed an outfielder at any point, he would have been the guy. Lukes was up with the big-league squad for only one game this year and has spent the rest of his time at Buffalo, going 57-for-171 (.333) with six home runs, 27 RBI and four stolen bases in 44 games. The former seventh-rounder by the Cleveland Guardians in 2015 out of Sacramento State debuted in the big leagues last year and hit just .192 (5-for-26) with two RBI in 29 games played.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi
