With the loss to Curtis at UFC 297, Barriault dropped to 16-7 and one No Contest as a pro and 5-6 and 1 NC in the UFC. The loss to Curtis also snapped his two-fight winning streak as Barriault will likely need to win a few fights in a row to get another shot at a ranked opponent.

Curtis was coming off a no-contest against Nassourdine Imavov and a controversial decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum. Curtis outstruck Barriault in all three rounds, but it was competitive in all three. The American finished the fight with 140 significant strikes to Barriault's 122 as he edged out the split decision win.

5 months agoMike Malott suffered a stunning third-round TKO loss to Neil Magny at UFC 297 on Saturday. Malott entered his main card spot as a sizeable favorite and looked to be cruising to a win. The Canadian outstruck Magny 20-to-5 in significant strikes in the first round, and then in round two outstruck him 21-to-6 in significant strikes, as well as going 2-for-2 on takedowns with 3:08 of control. However, Malott gassed out and was taken down by Magny who landed ground-and-pound strikes and scored the TKO win with 15 seconds left. It is Malott's first UFC loss and drops him to 10-2-1 as a pro.

5 months agoSean Strickland suffered a split decision loss to Dricus Du Plessis in the main event of UFC 297 on Saturday to lose his middleweight title. Strickland started off strong as he outstruck Du Plessis 39-to-19 in the first round, but did get taken down twice in the opening five minutes. The next four rounds were very competitive, and although Strickland outstruck Du Plessis in three of the four rounds, two of the three judges' scored the fight for the South African. Although Strickland lost his title at UFC 297, he likely is only a win away from getting another title shot.

5 months agoDricus Du Plessis remained undefeated in the UFC and became the new middleweight champion with a split decision win over Sean Strickland at UFC 297. Du Plessis was outstruck in the first round but did go for 2-for-3 on his takedowns in the first five minutes. The fight was back-and-forth, but the South African was able to win rounds two through four on two of the judges' scorecards to edge out the split decision. Du Plessis was outstruck 183-to-140 but went 6-for-11 on his takedowns with 2:08 of control. It was a very competitive fight, but Du Plessis was able to edge out the win, despite being outstruck four of the five rounds.
