The Baltimore Orioles announced on Monday that they transferred infielder Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) to the 60-day injured list. The team also placed catcher Maverick Handley (head) on the seven-day concussion injured list and selected the contract of catcher Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. The move to put Mountcastle on the 60-day IL was probably inevitable after he was given an eight- to 12-week timetable following a Grade 2 right-hamstring strain on May 30. The 28-year-old will not be ready to rejoin the Orioles lineup until sometime in the second half of the season. Until then, Ryan O'Hearn will continue to serve in the strong side of a platoon at first base in Baltimore with Coby Mayo also filling in. Mountcastle was hitting .246 with only two home runs and 15 RBI in 187 at-bats at the time of his injury.--Keith Hernandez
