Orioles Claim Lewin Diaz Off Waivers From Braves
2 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles claimed first baseman Lewin Diaz off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday and designated first baseman/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn for assignment in a corresponding move. Diaz continues to get passed around multiple MLB clubs this offseason, but he'll make a return to Baltimore for now. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting first baseman played in a career-high 58 games for the Miami Marlins in 2022 in his third major-league season and really struggled, hitting .169/.224/.288 with a .512 OPS, five home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored and a stolen base in 174 plate appearances. If he sticks with Baltimore heading into spring training, he'll be hoping to turn heads, but he's likely to begin the year at Triple-A Norfolk.
