Omar Narvaez Joins Mets On One-Year Deal
2 years agoThe New York Mets and free-agent catcher Omar Narvaez agreed to a one-year deal worth $8 million on Thursday that includes a $7 million player option for the 2024 season. Narvaez comes to Queens after serving as the Milwaukee Brewers' primary catcher over the last three years. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2021, but he took a big step back in 2022 by slashing just .206/.292/.305 with four home runs, 23 RBI and 21 runs scored in 296 plate appearances and 84 games played. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter will join a Mets roster that already includes backstops Francisco Alvarez (a top prospect), James McCann and Tomas Nido. Alvarez is eventually expected to become the primary catcher, so playing time might be hard to come by for Narvaez in his new digs.
