Nolan Arenado Expected To Stay Put
4 years agoColorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has been a potential trade chip with $199 million remaining on his contract this offseason, but the conventional wisdom inside baseball is that he won't be going anywhere this winter. However, if he were to be traded, sources say that one possibility is a pairing of two trades involving three teams. It would involve a team acquiring Arenado from Colorado in exchange for another player with "an onerous contract," then flipping him to a third party for prospects. It's a long-shot scenario that would prove difficult to pull off without even considering Arenado's full no-trade clause. The All-Star third baseman also has the ability to opt out of his deal after the 2021 season. The Rockies prefer not to trade the 29-year-old within the division to the Dodgers, so the Mets might be their best bet. Leaving hitter-friendly Coors Field would be a negative for Arenado's fantasy value, but he'd still be an elite third baseman.
