Nolan Arenado Could Have Excellent First Season In St. Louis
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado's disappointing 2020 season ended early due to a shoulder injury, but he still won his eighth straight Gold Glove Award and is joining a postseason contender. Arenado has never won an MVP, but he's finished in the top 10 in National League MVP voting five times, including three top-five finishes. He finished the 2019 campaign with 45.1 expected home runs (xHR), which was third in all of baseball. The 29-year-old had a career-low 10 percent strikeout rate in 2020, but his .253 average left a lot to be desired. Although he's leaving the friendly hitting confines of Coors Field, Arenado could return significant value now that he's no longer a first-round pick (current ADP of 35). He's motivated and healthy with his new squad, so fantasy managers should expect improvement in 2021.
