Nick Madrigal 2020 Outlook: Source of Average, Runs, Stolen Bases
5 years agoMadrigal is unlike any other prospect we’ve seen for quite some time. He does a lot of things well but is a player that would have been far more common in 1910 than in 2020. First the bad. This middle infielder will not help you at all with home runs or RBIs. But what he will do is hit for a high average, steal bases and score runs. Check out these minor league numbers from 2019 when Madrigal played at three levels and topped out in Triple-A. He hit .311 with 35 stolen bases and 44 walks. And he struck out just 16 times. In total. All year. He stole twice as many bases as he struck out. Madrigal is a natural hitter with an outstanding eye so he should bat at the top of the White Sox order for years to come. He will never be a big power guy but if he can add muscle as he matures, more doubles and triples could come. Leury Garcia may start the year at second base but he won’t stand in the way of Madrigal for long.
