Nick Bosa 2024 Player Outlook: A Return to Form
6 months agoBosa was the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, as many of us predicted in the pre-season. He took a step back in 2023, generating the second-fewest sacks of any full season in his career. This was not unexpected, as Bosa held out into training camp and those holdouts will often lead to a statistical decline. Bosa's advanced metrics in 2024 were still strong, though. He was second amongst all edge rushers in quarterback pressures and first in quarterback hits. His pressure rate was also best amongst edge rushers who played at least 50% of their team's defensive snaps. It's also encouraging that the former Buckeye was one of just 12 edges who played at least 80% of his team's defensive snaps. All of this is to say, Bosa was healthy and very effective in 2023. He was just unlucky. Expect a return to form in 2024, as Bosa is reporting to San Francisco's voluntary workouts and is reportedly in good shape. With his career snap and pressure rates, Bosa should again challenge for Defensive Player of the Year if healthy.
