10 months agoThe Washington Nationals requested unconditional release waivers on right-hander Chad Kuhl on Monday. The team also recalled relief pitcher Amos Willingham from the minors ahead of the series opener against the Seattle Mariners. Kuhl was designated for assignment on Saturday and wasn't claimed on waivers. He'll head back to the free-agent market after inking a minor-league deal with the Nats in February. The 30-year-old veteran struggled in 16 appearances (five starts) in the big leagues this year, going 0-4 with an 8.45 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 31 K's in 38 1/3 frames. Willingham, 24, gets his first big-league call-up after sporting an impressive 1.90 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, five saves and 25 strikeouts in 23 2/3 relief innings at Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
