Nationals Not Seriously Considering Kris Bryant
4 years agoWashington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said that the team hasn't had any serious ideas of acquiring Chicago Cubs third baseman and former MVP Kris Bryant. Rizzo said the offseason priority is a bat for the middle of the lineup after they lost star third baseman Anthony Rendon in free agency last year. Manager Dave Martinez also coached Bryant in Chicago, hence some of the Bryant speculation. Bryant will become a free agent after the 2021 season, and there's been little progress on an extension with the Cubs. "It's never good to get one year of a really good player for three or four prospects for the future," Rizzo stated. Bryant had a .644 OPS and was slowed by multiple injuries in 2020, but he's one year removed from clubbing 31 home runs and posting a .903 OPS.
